Negro Leagues anyone?

The hardest part will be rosters. I don't know if we can find rosters. I have baseball history books at home... but that might be the hardest thing.

It looks like this has been attempted before. Check this out...

There is one Negro League team in Total Classics -- the 1934 Pittsburgh Crawfords. As has been mentioned in previous posts, the difficult part of creating Negro League teams is finding actual rosters.

Once we got past Total Classics 4, Fuzz was going to create a Negro League mod and Thome did create a number of uniforms. What doomed the project was not being able to find rosters.

Here's an idea for which teams to include - http://www.blackbaseball.com/teams/index.htm

One of the issues you'll run into MVP-wise is that most Negro League teams carried rosters of 14 or 15 players, which is too low a number for a major-league MVP team.

I have a Negro League encyclopedia which describes the individual players in a general sort of way, but doesn't include stats. If you believe Ken Burns, most Negro League teams where too financially strapped to have an official scorekeeper, but baseball without statistics? Come ON! I have to believe that the Chicago Defender and other black news outlets must have published box scores regularly, somebody just needs to compile them. I'm under the impression that's what the 250,000.00 grant described in the answer to Thome's post was all about.

Any way I can help, Homer...

dang, if they have box scores, they should send them here. i'm sure we could handle it. but thanks.

you know all about the mod i'm working on, so 14-15 players works for my mod. i just need to pull anywhere from 2-8 25-man rosters of some of the great ones. but yeah, the 25 man roster for a total conversion roster might prove difficult. but hell, we're creative. i'm just glad we're at least discussing this again. small steps :)

good point hcl...

well i love the links you guys gave. basically, what i got now for the legends mod is enough guys to fill two levels for the marlins, rockies, rays, and d-backs. i'm saving the other two levels for negro leagues/japan players. so i need at least 100 guys. i'm gonna start with those in the HOF.

thome, if you find it, let me know. it would be invaluable to anything we're doing.

if anyone has ratings on any of these guys, that'd be great too. besides TC8 that is, i already have that roster.
