Does MVP 05 require hardware transform & lighting?

I'm probably going to purchase either MVP 04 or 05 but before I make my choice I wanted to see if 05 will run on my system. I have an older graphics card and wanted to know if hardware T&L was required for the game. If not, I can probably run 05 and will purchase that, but otherwise I'd have to go with 04.

First off, welcome to the site.

Secondly, purchasing this game can be on the expensive side. Check out the prices for Mvp 2005 on Amazon. It is crazy. Most of the mods made here are for Mvp 05.

Also, post your specs here for the game. I would get as much RAM as possible.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm amazed at the size of this community and the resources available for whichever version I end up getting. Here's my pc specs:

Dell with Windows XP

1.7 GHz

384 MB of RAM

32 MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra

-No T&L

-No Pixel Shader

-No Vertex Shader

That should be everything relevant. My computer doesn't have much going for it so even though the specs may exceed the minimum requirements, it may not run very well. If that is the case with 05, do you think that 04 would be the better choice? Will 04 run well with all the bells and whistles on? Thanks again for the help and let me know if anymore info is needed.

mvp 04 is very limited on the bells and wistles. Compared to MVP 05, its almost nothing.

Your specs are close though. You might have some trouble with 05 but not sure

This is from the readme.txt file that came with the game:

================================================

1. System Requirements

================================================

800 MHz Intel Pentium III or equivalent

128 Megabytes of RAM for Windows 98/ME (256 MB for Windows 2000/XP)

DirectX 9.0 Compatible 3D accelerated 32 MB AGP video card (see section 12 for supported video cards)

800 MB free hard disk space plus additional space for saved games, Windows swap file, and DirectX 9.0 installation

8X Speed CD-ROM/DVD-ROM

DirectX 9.0 compatible sound card

56k Modem or broadband connection for online gameplay

Windows-compatible mouse

Windows-compatible Keyboard

(360º gamepad with dual analog sticks highly recommended)

Supported video cards:

MVP Baseball 2005 supports AGP, PCI-Xpress, and some PCI Video cards, provided thay have 32 MB memory or more and use one of the following chipsets:

ATI Radeon Series 7500 or greater

Intel 915g

Matrox Parhelia

NVIDIA GeForce2 or greater

From what I could find online, your ATI Rage 128 Ultra card falls below the level of an ATI Radeon Series 7500, so I don't believe that you'll be able to play MVP2005 on it.

Yep, it's borderline and the graphics card was the one unknown. I think I'll just play it safe and go with 04, as I'm sure there's enough mods to make it close to 05. Thanks for all the help everyone.

That's not really a true statement, as 05 was a big improvement over 04. That being said, however, you can download updated stadiums (with real ads), uniforms, audios, etc. and still have fun. In addition, there is a 2008 mod being worked on for MVP04. Here's a link:
