InSainn
I know it's frowned upon to download MVP 05 around here but I was wondering why? I know, in regular circumstances you want users to support the manufacturer and pay for what they receive, which, under regular circumstances I whole heartedly agree. My issue is this, MVP 05 is out of print. When a gamer goes on ebay or Amazon or whatever else and buys the game for a ridiculous $80-$100 EA sees absolutely 0% of that money. The only person seeing the money from the sale is the greedy, previous owner of that copy of the game. Personally, I don't think the site should advocate these people overcharging for the game in such a manner, especially when the manufacturer sees none of the profit. Maybe I'm wrong but I can't imagine EA being too upset about the game being downloaded now that it's out of print. I think if anything, downloading should be encouraged over people having to pay double of what the game's worth to Joe Shmoe on ebay . I'm not trying to start any problems it's just an honest question I had.
Jim825
Pure and simple -- It's illegal and wrong to do. Is it right that eBay and Amazon are charging so much for the game? No. Is it illegal, however? No It's simply the law of supply and demand. There is a small supply of the game and a high demand for it, so therefore retailers know that some people will be willing to pay higher prices for it. If nobody bought MVP2005 at these high prices, retailers would be forced to lower the price, but that hasn't happened yet. This is no different than any other discontinued or out of print item that people are willing to pay high prices (e.g. books, records, classic cars, you name it). Yankee4Life
InSainn, it really is a very fair question that you asked and to be honest, I agree with what you are saying. I feel bad for the people who do not have this game and can not afford to pay close to one hundred dollars for it either from E-bay or Amazon. That is highway robbery but it's going to continue if people are that desperate to play this game. Even though this game is out of print like you stated, it's still EA's game. They own it. But as Jim stated, it isn't illegal for anyone to sell their game at any price they want. If someone wants to throw their copy out there and slap a $150 price tag on it, the guy would be an *(&hole for doing it but there would be nothing stopping him. As far as downloading this game -or any other commercial game- people are always going to do it. We all know it. What they do away from this site is their own business. If they want to risk downloading that stuff, well whatever. But all we can do is not allow someone to come in and ask how or where to get this game, where a no-cd patch is, or anything like it. Then some lawyer will twist it around and say we are looking the other way on this subject. All I can hope for is that EA re-issues this game in the near future so all the ones out there who are charging $100 are left holding the bag. And if they do re-issue this game, I'll snap one up myself for a backup.

Granted it is not to the extreme of other price gouging situations (ex: gas prices sky-rocketing right after Katrina hit), but it is illegal nevertheless, correct? You could look at it that way, but who's going to stop these people from doing this? And before I forget, do you know the highest price for this game that someone had for sale on Amazon? It was for 250 dollars. No kidding. Someone on this board pointed this out to us so maybe there's some others out there that remember this. And I always wondered if he sold it? The thing I don't get though is, if EA knew people were charging so much money for their product, when they weren't even receiving any of the money, would they really have that big of a problem with others downloading it. Obviously, if they plan on ever re-issuing the game, then it becomes a problem but I would think, if they had planned on that, it would have already been done. Regardless, I'm glad I bought my copy when it first came out (unfortunatly, I didn't find out about this site or mods in general until about a year ago) cause honestly, there's no way I would pay $100 for it and I would download it instead. seanzarelli
Yeah, Y4L pretty much nailed it right on the head. Especially about the lawyer part. All Trues needs is someone from EA browsing the site and seeing that we are allowed to actively talk about pirating a copy of their game and supplying links and stuff. I think you did the right thing in politely asking for an explanation and I'm glad you got the answers you were seeking. I've actually been in the same boat with the game Nascar Racing 2003 that was made for the PC. Copies of the game go on eBay for more than MVP. And the company that now owns the license to the game loves suing the crap out of people.
