Coachwf
Looking for opinions of MVP baseball 2004 for the PC from some of the old-time high heaters still around. I thought I'd sit this year out for the first time in probably 10 years, but feeling the urge and HH2004 just didn't do it for me. Had a blast w/ HH2000-HH2002, but the hour + games w/ no save just ruined the fun factor for me...along w/ a few other things like a terrible interface. Anyway, how is the realism in MVP? How long are the games? How is dynasty mode? Batter/pitcher interface, etc. How does it all compare to High Heat? Thanks.
carter
Welcome to the board Coachwf! I find that MVP has better graphics, improved gameplay but is lacking statistically. For example, there isn't a way to view an individual players' career stats... which truly sucks. A single game usually takes about half an hour if it is pitched well. The dynasty mode is good, but can be improved. The AA and AAA teams are a great addition and add to the whole excitement of being a team's GM. All in all it is a great game and I highly recommend it.... I haven't played HH since 2003... and I don't miss it at all... aside from the stats! How can EA miss that aspect?! Really now... Baseball is a stat game! Oh well, there is always 2005! I can't wait!
stecropper
Hi Coachwf, As Cartersyard said - WELCOME to Mvpmods. I am not much of a High Heat guy, although I do have all versions of the game, but my friend Tony Alex is very much one. He and I both, along with many others here at mvpmods are dedicated Classic Baseball enthusiast. You should see the uniforms Cartersyard makes for our Oldtime Teams. They are nothing short of spectacular. I feel certain Tony Alex would be more than happy to share his insight to how these two games compare from a Classic Baseballer's perspective. Tony along with Capa2000 published some wonderful classic baseball rosters which can be found in the Rosters section of this site. I think you can find Tony's contact information in there as well if you care to drop him a line. He often spoke to me about his High Heat days which he enjoined very much as well as being a big contributor to that game via mods. He is now contributing tremendous things to MVP 2004. Tell Tony I sent you his way. Haven't spoke with him in awhile and do look forward to talking with him again someday. Take Care and again WELCOME to a great group of baseball folks. adembroski
I am genuinely mourning HH still. I cannot believe such an exceptional game is really dead. I can only pray that Trip Hawkins gets on somewhere and can rebuild this exceptional franchise in some way. Or, better yet, EA should bring him in for MVP. My opinion: High Heat was better, MVP has greater potential. If EA can nail down the computer AI (the computer managing is downright STUPID) than MVP can go far. The level of control is awesome. I still dislike the timing based swing system. MVP was timing + location, 3 dimentional baseball, and you aimed your hit by swinging at the right spot and getting the correct timing... you know, kind of like real hitters do. A few adjustments to the HH hitting system would have made it perfect. But I can live with MVPs simplified system so long as they fix the AI. Item of note: PC version is the ONLY way to go with MVP. Without modifications, the consoles lag way behind in every way.
Coachwf
No way to view a player's career stats??? This one by itself may tell me not to waste my time with this game. So the career stats aren't accumulated, even in dynasty mode? I am familiar with Tony. He used to contribute quite heavily to the HH community, even when I ran High Heat Central. Capa always created an old-time roster too. I only play PC so ESPN is not an option for me. Haven't consoled since the Sega Genesis. :-) FYI..still my opinion that Trip Hawkins wasn't necessarily the key individual when it came to High Heat's success. The original main man when it comes to the guts of the game was Mark Dickenson. He left after 2001 I believe and then his 2nd in command, Jason Ray, took over. Jason left after the 2002 version to join Konami I believe. Those 2 were the most responsible for the games success in my opinion. They implemented an incredibly realistic style of play in a 30 minute game with all the behind the scenes roster mgmt you could want.

Yankee4Life
You know what I really wish for? And I know this is really stretching it. But I wish for a baseball game that takes the best parts of the High Heat series and MVP Baseball and makes one great game. Ok, I'm asking a lot. kaplerisking
What are you people talking about saying that you can't view a player's career stats? All you have to do is find the player, click on "get player info" and move through the screens until you see the one that says "Career Batting Statistics" or "Career Pitching Statistics", maybe you can't do it in exhibition mode, but you certainly can in dynasty mode. I don't know how you all missed that.
AlexTony
Gentleman, a 'Thank You' for all the compliments. Yes, HH is a different game than MVP. I miss some of the small things in HH. The guess pitch, customize leagues, (ex. 16 teams) ability to control more than one team at a time, etc., The pitching was the biggest difference for myself. But, I must admit, after I took a few 20 to 1 beatings I started to catch on and actually like that aspect better. (my humble opinion) But, as with HH, it has been the community and the modders who have made the most of what the game will allow. All starting with the RGlass editor (ala 'Danger Z' with HH) up to the rest of the gang that are too many to mention. After playing HH for over four years and playing a BB sim for over 25 - MVP has filled that 'BB sim' fix that most all of us here can identify with. I personally, like many others, like playing the old teams, players and leagues. From the early 1900's all the way too the currents. We have put together a thread for a 'wish list' for MVP 2005 and 'IF' EA adds some of this - the next version will be as Eric Cartman would say " kick a.. " The hope is we can still use or incorporate our rosters, uni's, and some of the other mod's into 2005. CoachW it is good to hear from you. You are welcome with open gloves. Lots of personalities, quirks and mod guru's here!! All makes the community interesting, diversified and full of neat mod's. Thanks again coach for all the help and time you put in at the HH forum in the past. RGlass enjoy the Stro's. Fuzz, buddy "whats happening" and Stecropper 'Thank You' for the compliments & good to hear from you. True's we do appreciate this site. I don't know how you all missed that. That is true Kaplerisking. Now that I think about it, I wasn't clear. When I wrote that you can't view career stats I meant that you can't see a year by year breakdown of stats. It is true that a total over the entire career is there, but I like to see what a player has done over the course of his entire career - his ups and downs and how he faired while playing for different teams... get the whole picture if you know what i am saying. I agree with Yankee4Life, I want to see the statistical side of HH combined with the gameplay of MVP and while I am pushing it already I would like to see the managerial and financial aspects from the Out of the Park baseball simulation game... Now that would be one hell of a game! Make it happen EA, make it happen! 2005 is near!
Emil
Welcome to the board Coachwf! For example, there isn't a way to view an individual players' career stats... which truly sucks. It is :!: Right-click on a player.....And after the attributes and all that kind of stuff, the career stats will show up! PS: didn't read the post above! Coachwf
...but you still cannot view the career stats year by year? That makes me wonder a bit about the rating system. I know Mark Dickenson from 3DO originally told me that they factored in the last 3 seasons with the ratings to determine the actual player ability. Think it was a weighted system w/ the ratings having the most affect though...factored with age.
bone
...but you still cannot view the career stats year by year? correct. there is only a lifetime stats panel. get the game though. it's worth it.
Playball335
There is a way around the career stats. I use MLB Read to spit out html files of my dynasty at the end of every season.
