Advice on buying a new tv

I'm in the market for a new lcd tv and I've pretty much settled on a 1080p HDTV in the 40" to 46" range. Since I'd like to spend no more than around 1,300, I guess that probably limits me to a 40 or 42?

My big question is what specs I should look for so I can play MVP. Like monitors, should I be looking for the smallest response time? Can anybody recommend a brand they've had success with? I'll be playing it through my pc, so I think I need to pick up a DVI to HDMI adapter, right? Oh, and I have a Nvidia 7900GS card. Will I run into problems with it trying to play the game on a 40-something inch screen?

Sorry for throwing so many questions out, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well i sold Tv's at sears for a while and learned alot. As dustin said, samsing all the way. You get the great reliable product as you do with sony but for less the price. Look for a good contrast ratio. At the least 15,000 to 1 should be ok, so you get good blacks and whites. BTW stick to LCD, Plasmas are not the best for gaming because you run the risk of burn in on those. Although they have gotten better recently in preventing that problem. Also take a look at the motion flow samsungs that put out 120 hz refresh rate. The higher response time reduces blur with fast imaging and It makes 1080p movies look so realistic, as if they jump off the screen.

1300 for a great 1080p tv is kind of a prayer at the size you want. You can get an ok tv around that price at a 40 ina samsung but it wont be the best in the line.(ie motion flow) In terms of LCD brands that are top of the line are your 3 S's. Samsung, Sony, and Sharp. They cost more than other brands but you get what you pay for.

Your ok Midlevel brands are toshiba, panasonic, mitsubishi, and others

STAY AWAY from cheap-o tvs with sub 10,000 to 1 contrast ratio, and that say "1080input". Tvs that say they can take a 1080p signal but only display at 720p max. Brands that had poor reviews and high returns at my store were Vizio, Olevia, Memorex, and Proscan.

Put it this way. If the brand does not have a reputation with making fine electronics DONT BUY IT. Always check Cnet reviews as well on the TV you chose before you buy. Their thoughts pretty much mirrored what sold and what was returned at our store. And the user reviews there are good too.
