Being a self-confessed geek these days, I try to keep up to date on the latest news in the I.T. industry in various sections - security, consumer products and general news are my main interests. I know that some people either not in the industry or who don't have time to catch up on this kind of thing are not always aware of the latest products available on the market, the latest I.T.-related news or the newest gadgets that will shape computing for the years and decades to come, so if there's a demand for it, I'd be quite happy to share this information here and post about it for discussion and comment.

Also, working for Dell highlights various circumstances, issues and common practices in the industry, which would be worthwhile knowledge for anyone to have if they're looking for a career in the I.T. industry or about computing in general, so every once in a while, I could post some thoughts...sort of like a blog post. This would be quite rare compared to the rest of the posts, I don't plan on turning it into a personal venting area for myself, although it very easily could do if not controlled. :)

Anyway, just trying to get some opinions on whether this would be something that you guys would be interested in. I've created a poll above, so please vote whether you're interested or not. Also, if you have any specific requests on topics to cover or any specific reasons why this is not something you would be interested in, I'd appreciate any comments on why or what you would be interested in in this capacity.

I'll leave the poll open until Sunday afternoon, so make sure you've got your votes in before 12pm EST.

Thanks! :)

I thought about it, but unfortunately, I don't have the time to make regular in-depth posts, and I hate half-covering something. If I'm going to write it, it has to be full, accurate, and descriptive, otherwise it's not anywhere near as good for the reader, and being somewhat of a perfectionist, I like to make sure my work is done right.

As the old saying goes, if something's worth doing, it's worth doing right. :)

Final result of 3 yes votes to 2 no votes...not exactly an overwhelming majority. :lmao:

Sorry evil, seems like there's not really that much interest. If anyone has a very strong opinions and really wants it, post and let me know, but I doubt it, so I'll put it to the side.

For the guys who did vote either way, thanks. :)

i would very much like this regardless of what the poll says. but it's been damn near impossible to connect to this site as of late, so it's rather difficult to keep up with what's going on. because of this, i almost missed what was said here, but was fortunate enough that i caught a glimpse of it before i closed it out. just my 2 cents about maybe why

A+, definitely. If anything, for the sole reason that it's an easy pass and certification if you have half an idea about computers. I've not seen the Security tests, so I couldn't say, but one my the guys at work has just finished his A+ and I'm looking into doing it soon if I get some time.

Homer, KC, Eric - I seem to have missed your replies, sorry guys. I know how hard it's been to connect to the site recently - the :wall: emoticon isn't out of place, put it that way. :) Since it's warranted, I'll work on something in the next few days and have it up over the weekend.

Any preferences over what you'd like covered? Evil, and anyone else who's interested, this is open to you as well.

Thanks MarkB, I have been on the fence for about 6 months now wondering if I should go ahead and study up a bit on some terminology and go take the tests. Getting tired of painting houses thats for sure, if A+ helps me get a foot in the door on a different career path I'll take it.

:wtg:

No problem. :) Yeah, it's a good start to see what you're looking at in an I.T. career. At the end of the day, it's all self-study anyway, so you have the option of studying for it, and if you feel you're in above your head, you can seek assistance or just stop altogether, and if you like it, you can go ahead and take the test and get certified.

Good luck!
