BigPaPa
Im running low on space on the drive that holds windows. I dont want to have to repartition my Hard drive so i want to delete useless system files like the 300 mb of windows help files i never read ect.. But i don't have permission. I know i can delete them at the command line but that takes forever one by one. Anyone know how to do this?

MarkB
You could look into a program named XPLite. It is basically just a front-end with references to all the various Windows components, which you can remove just by ticking or un-ticking a box. It has almost everything to do with Windows listed, from network settings you may not use, to the accessibility programs, games etc. With that said, if you're so low on disk space that you're removing Windows files, you either need a bigger drive, or just a reformat. Backup your important data on an external drive or DVDs. Deleting Windows system files, whether you're currently using them or not, isn't exactly the greatest idea in the world - you'll use up the gained space a lot quicker than you think, and your drive will be so slow from being full that any free space increase you get will be more than negated by the time it takes the drive to access your data. BigPaPa
yeah the last time i reformatted i accidentally types a 1 instead of 2 and gave my windows drive only 10 gigs to sit on... its a pain in the *** but i guess i can just back up and reformat. MarkB
Why reformat over that? Use a partitioning program and extend it. Very easy. If you don't have one, get something like Hiren's Boot CD, burn the image to a CD, and boot from it. There are a pile of tools there. Something like Partition Magic should do the job fine. BigPaPa
eh not so much. Wont let me repartition my active/System HDD The other option ive found is booting Linux form a CDE and using their partitioning software. EDIT: Now im completely lost. Nowhere does it say if this method with Linux is workable on a bootable drive.
