HairGelledBack
Hi, I'm new here. It's great to see so many people behind such a great game that I, (ignorantly) thought was dead. This game has always been my favorite baseball game to date, and I'm glad I wasn't the only one. What I have to ask is I currently own the PS2 version of the game (before flaming me to post this in the PS2 forum, hear me out), and I was recently told that it is no longer playable online. This bummed me out. So I was referred here by a friend, and, here I am. Is there some kind of modification I can use to play it online on my PS2, or do I have to buy the PC version which, please correct me if I'm wrong, goes up to around 50$ on eBay? Also, can you still play via the EA servers on the PC version? Or do you have to do some sort of modding for that as well? I wouldn't mind purchasing the PC version as I have a XBOX 360 Wired controller I can use. Also, is tweaking the controller.cfg difficult? MarkB
Hey, welcome to the site. To answer your questions; No, the PS2 version would not work on the PC. You would need to purchase the PC version of the game, and unfortunately, if you can get it for $50, consider yourself lucky. It's been seen to go much higher than that, sometimes up to $75 or $100. EA shut down their EA Online support for MVP a few years back, so currently, tje only online play available for the PC version is IP-to-IP play. Tweaking the controller.cfg file is actually incredibly easy. It's just a case of mapping your controller button numbers with what you want the button to represent in-game. Also, there are quite a few threads around which contain copies of other people's controller.cfg files, and I'm pretty sure I've seen one for the 360 controller, so you could just copy and paste this and you'd be done. EDIT - You can find a thread for controller.cfg files for the 360 controller here.

Is it so that you have to give your IP address to whoever you want to play? And would you consider this dangerous? Thanks
HairGelledBack
Also wanted to say, Ouch! 75-100 $ for an older PC game? I guess this is because GameStop and other various stores have dropped pC games. Ah well. Would you guys and girls consider it "worth it" to purchase, or if you have already? MarkB
No problem at all. Exactly, yeah. In an IP-to-IP session, one user hosts the connection and the other connects to the hosts computer. Sharing your IP in general isn't the safest practice, but usually, you'll probably only play with people you trust. Also, if you have adequate security on your system, simply giving out your IP shouldn't cause any problems. At the very least, I'd recommend a firewall and anti-virus program, depending on how comfortable you are with your PC and the security you have installed. Thank you very much Do you still play it often? BTW, is the only way you can play, with Hamachi? I read this topic http://www.mvpmods.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=...5/start=75.html and it seems great. MarkB
Sorry, was replying to your previous post when you made the second one. The reason the price is so high is partly because EA Sports aren't manufacturing the game any more, so it's hard to get a copy of it, and also because this is the last PC baseball game that was made, which sort of ties into the previous reason. I've been playing MVP a lot more recently with the baseball season starting and as I'm off work sick, so I'm getting in around a game per day, but I'll probably be back to normal levels after I go back, so maybe a game or 2 per week at that point. I've never actually used Hamachi before, but going from what's in that thread, it looks pretty good. Maybe worth a shot.
TribeFan4Eva
hey man. your best bet is to join a league. search the forums for some available ones. that way you can consistently get in like 5 online games a week or more with other people who wanna play just like you. good luck. I had no idea it was the last baseball PC game ever made. One more question, sorry for the abundance of them Is the game the same as it was on the PS2? Frame rate, visuals, etc. What controller do you use and is it similar to the PS2 one (assuming you've played it on the PS2). Sorry got one more  Since you haven't used Hamachi, you play on the game itself which utilizes some kind of "input friends ip" and wait for a response between two clients? And thank you for helping. hey man. your best bet is to join a league. search the forums for some available ones. that way you can consistently get in like 5 online games a week or more with other people who wanna play just like you. good luck. Great, thanks. I will definitely look into it once I actually get a copy of the game itself 8)
MarkB
Hey, ask as many questions as you want. It's an open forum, that's what it's here for. I'm not sure about any differences in graphics there may be between the PC and PS2 versions. As you said, I've never used it, but maybe someone who has can chime in. I actually use a PS2 controller, coupled with a PS2 to USB converter, to play MVP though. Yeah, whenever I'm playing online, which, admittedly, isn't much, I just use the IP-to-IP method. One other thing I just thought of - if you're playing online, you'll need to ensure that the mods that both players are using are compatible with online play. For example, if both players are using different rosters, the game will probably either not start, start, but show a message saying that one player has been disconnected for unfair behaviour, or will simply crash. Stadium mods should be OK as this is purely graphical, but things which affect the gameplay, such as rosters and datafiles, would be worth checking first to make sure they work online.
