pistonj92
My high school was in the national news. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,356280,00.html http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/1627863...tail.html(Found on http://www.cnn.com/US/) I know most of these kids, and the kids who designed the shirt, and they aren't that bad. I believe the punishment is ridiculous. Underage drinking in high school is very well known. (just watch Superbad) What do you guys think?

BigDom
Warren Cousino did that same exact thing with the ".08" this year as well but never got into trouble with wearing during school. The faculty let it fly.
wrigleyville33
Yeah I mean it took me a while to figure out what was so bad about the shirts at first. I couldn't see anything wrong with them until I read the article. I love how they suspended 50 people too.
brutushayesosu
Maybe ban them from the prom, but not graduation. It's funny to me how things like this make the national news, while more important stuff doesn't.
MarkB
Suspended, for that? Jesus, give me a break. No wonder the world is getting so screwed up so quickly - everyone's so damn quick to be "offended" by something they don't agree with. Hello, it's called an opinion, ******* deal with it. RaptorQuiz
They were stupid enough to make t-shirts referring to their own consumption of alcohol, and they are under age. They needn't worry about missing graduation - because they were clearly so stupid they shouldn't be graduating from high school anyway. They were suspended for ONE DAY. Big deal. They were morons, and they got a slap on the wrist. I feel the punishment is appropriate, if not overly lenient. It says they COULD be banned from prom, and COULD be banned from commencement - which for anyone who is confused, means they wouldn't get to ATTEND the graduation ceremony - not actually be prevented from graduating. I don't think those two punishments are needed - but COME ON - at some point the kids need to be reminded there's a LINE - and openly joking about BREAKING THE LAW, by designing a t-shirt about under-aged alcohol abuse? Jesus Christ, people, THIS IS CALLED BEING PUNISHED FOR YOUR ACTIONS. Yes, they deserved it, OF COURSE THEY DID. It was a 1-day suspension, and it's over now. When did it become BAD to punish kids for acting inappropriately? My father would've kicked my F'ing **** if he thought I was drinking in high school. And for the record - no, I did not. I didn't drink until the summer following high school. I was on the wrestling, football, baseball, and cross-coutry teams at various points throughout high school. I didn't have time to drink. But if I had - I certainly would've been SMART enough not to talk about it on a T-SHIRT and then wear it TO SCHOOL. Hello???? DUUUHHHH.

What did they think would happen? The teachers and staff would support it? Anyone who said the punishment is wrong is backwards. Yes when I was in high school I drank all the time, you just don't brag about it by making senior shirts. What a bunch of idiots
meteamo
Nobody takes responsiblity for their own actions anymore. There are consequences for every action ... good and bad. These kids are one year from entering into the real world. If they did something like this in the business world, it wouldn't be acceptable. They need to grow up. If they actually would wear a shirt like this, who knows even if at least one person would do this and then get behind the wheel. So many people with friends and relatives who died as a result of something that the shirt perhaps for some advertise so even though these kids may think it's funny or as a joke, it's far from that. I would have perhaps altered the punishment to maybe a day or weekend field trip to see or listen to the results of alcohol including car crashes with maybe not being able to go to the prom. Everyone's talking about the punishment may be too harsh but does anyone think this punishment wasn't harsh enough?
D-Unit
Punishment was fitting, but the media blew it out of proportion. This shouldn't go further than a town paper.

RaptorQuiz
Everyone's talking about the punishment may be too harsh but does anyone think this punishment wasn't harsh enough? I think it could've been a more "topical" punishment. Maybe make them go listen to some people who lost loved ones to drunk drivers, or people who have lived through alcoholism and come through it - and talk about what it did to their own lives, and the lives of those close to them. I understand that going out and having some drinks with some friends is fun. It's fine. Lots of people do it. But has it really gotten to the point where 17 and 18 year olds think it's okay to joke about their own drinking on a T-Shirt, then wear it to their SCHOOL? What??? What planet are these kids on? And where are their parents??? When I was in high school - the parties that had booze had to be secret as possible - or else somebody's parents would kill everyone with their bare hands. These days it seems like the parents will buy the booze for the kids. Parents these days are so worried about not being "the bad guy" that they've forgotten how to be PARENTS. Kids don't need more friends - THEY NEED PARENTS. RQ hit it right on the head. Thank you. :)
Sandlot
I'm graduating from HS this year and if we did this at our school I could assure you no penalties would be handed out.
catzrthecoolest
this would be against the (very exhaustive) rules of what you cannot wear at my school....
meteamo
Parents these days are so worried about not being "the bad guy" that they've forgotten how to be PARENTS. Kids don't need more friends - THEY NEED PARENTS. Yep. Agreed 100%. Many parents now-a-days don't instill the values into these kids that they used to when we were kids. And they think it's okay to do this and that without any consequence. And half of those kids don't make it as they could otherwise when they hit the real world. I was gonna go into a rant about parenting, kids having kids, comparing today's kids and parents with yesteryear and the breakdown of society but I wouldn't know where to stop. I'll just say this ..... Kids ... listen to RQ and KG .. they know what they are talking about. Hey ... maybe RQ and KG should run as the Presidential Ticket in 2008 or 2012 ... it could be the MVP Ticket .... now i'm just plain tired ... good night. meteamo
I think KG is a democrat, while I am a republican. Maybe we could just form a new party. The eParty. lol. * - Note, I am not sure that KG is actually a democrat, this is just a guess. If that is the case, wouldn't that show the voters that you can actually do something that the others said they would do? ... bridge the gap. Talk is just talk but actions speak louder. Imagine if Obama picked a republican or liberal (Ala Ron Paul or Mike Bloomberg) or if McCain picked a democrat or liberal (Ala Romney or god forbid Hillary). The world would be a mess. Anyways, I told this story to a friend of mine today and he told me that he got suspended as a senior for a similar stint but his highschool's policy was that if it is the first suspension as a senior, you can appeal it by writing a letter to the principal. I'm not sure if he was able to avoid suspension or go to his prom, but he went to the prom in another high school. Imagine if the penalty for a high school act like this as a senior was to hold them back one year. It makes me think what they would do in other countries where penalities could be stiffer than the United States. I know in Japan, they (used to) go to school for 6 days out of the week and the kids would have tutors for the 7th day at times.
