What would you want for the perfect modable baseball game?

Anyone out there ever think that there will be a game where everyone can access and create rosters and faces and portraits as well as all the editables already offered on all platforms? Meaning... A game that is freely modable by fans? One very much like MVP but without the limitations. Something much easier like MAdden is to add rosters too. Or possibly a depot for people to pull players from. Of course the game has to be created first. Something for Mac's even... I don't know. Anyone want to expand upon this theory?

only if game creators see the potential in not limiting what the end user can do and is willing to put time and effort into their products. but the way it is, consoles are they way they're going.

Oh easy: the ability to call a player out after 5 foul balls. No doubt.

Also, wickets.

LOL

I was thinking about some of the features that Baseball Mogul has.

1. Baseball Mogul lets you go to a 3, 4 or 5 man rotation.

2. Baseball Mogul lets you start a "dynasty" in any year since 1901. Then it lets you select a team in that respective year. You can be the Boston Braves, Yankees with Babe Ruth, Brooklyn Dodgers with Jackie Robinson, etc. After you either select the year or team, it then creates the "dynasty" for you with all of the realistic historical stats. You can also choose to use realistic historical draft picks (I think) for every year after the start of the "dynasty" unless if the start was last year.

I think there is more but I'm too busy checking out everyone's stats.

I think there was a thread about this a while ago and there were many suggestions.

Is it impossible for independants to create games and sell them to consoles or even within Mac or PC formats and sell them independantly? So many of the people who use this site could so profit from such a thing not to mention create it. At least I think as a team all the modders have this ability. Hire or trade with programmers who are interested in breaking down the coorperate machines? Especially if you go for Mac or PC sales. Modders understand the potential. EA doesn't. This is all hypothetical, most obviously.

I know a few guys at work who used to work in game development, and I've told them flat-out that if EA do not regain the contract for baseball and make a new PC baseball game, or there isn't one on the market, I'll be giving them a call to see if they'd be interested in working on one.

They're not big baseball fans (hey, it's Scotland, what can I say?), but with input from even a small portion of guys here, I'm pretty sure we could make a better game than MVP, which would be damn difficult.

The ability to play online with 8 other players as a team, where each has their own responsibility and works together. Also, the ability to pit these teams against others in a pre-made league. The ultimate dream...

Oh, and wickets sound pretty rad too.

Come on guys, 8 replies and no one has said "40-Man Rosters"?

My perfect baseball game would comprise of:

-Downloadable ads that would be mapped around the adspaces around the stadiums, while you play.

-TrueSimâ„¢ Franchise mode, where all of your roster moves are determined only by the MLB via weekly roster updates. (credit goes to http://www.outsourcemymojo.com/2008/04/ea-...jo-part-4.html)

- Advanced manager profiles

I'd love the TrueSim idea though.

A games where sliders aren't necessary. Instead the game would look at your skill level and tweak all of its variables to give you realistic results based on your ability.

40-man rosters, unfortunately, shouldn't even need to be a part of the perfect moddable game... they just need to be part of the game period. That and everything else, like the Rule 5 draft, like the June First player-draft... like teams moving, like teams getting new stadiums...

I mean, All-Star Baseball 04, for crying out loud, had the teams get new stadiums. It wasn't fancy, but they were new.

My game:

-Customize and create teams, ballparks, uniforms OUTSIDE of Franchise mode.

-Franchise mode, where you can move your team but it costs money. You have the option of adding expansion teams in the offseason via an option that would ask "add expansion teams this year?". You could also build new ballparks in your city, add onto your existing one, change the colors, etc. Some teams will have the option of moving to other teams ballparks.

-40 man rosters, rule 5, June draft, etc.

-"Opt out" options on contracts.

-A "road to the show" type game mode.

-Customizable rosters. By this, I mean the ability to say, make your rotation 3-4-5 or 6 starters. The ability to shift starting positions, if you were in a park like the coliseum where you could have 5 infielders.

-REALISTIC BUDGETS FOR AN OWNER-MODE TYPE THING!!! Please, the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, etc., will always have lots more money than everybody else.

-Ability for online leagues.

-PC compatibility.

-When players retire, they become staff.

-"Staff Creator". Get, let's say, 300 points to allocate to a staff member.

I'd like

September call-up

June draft

Rule 5

First person position player

Play with more than one player on the same team

PC version that is just as good as the console version

Ability to choose who pays the pitcher a visit to the mound (manager, coach, catcher, etc.) and have varying effects on the pitcher depending on who visits him in a given situation.

They have this already... of course, not in MVP

I hav already said what I'd want to change, and add to an MLB game (new rules, create a team, etc.), no need to say it again.

Well, that being the case, this idea should be elaborated upon by not only putting the idea under an MLB license, but also by putting you in the mind of the player by having a "point of view" camera angle, along with the generic broadcast options.

Thanks for the link, by the way. Just about to download it.

More stats. More pitcher stats, batter stats, etc... and stats that effect the play of the game. Something like Frontpage Sports or Tony Larusa (sp?) baseball had.

The ability to purchase steroids for your players, and being able to blackmail people. Then leave them out to dry when they are caught using steroids and lying in federal court. I assume this would be in a owner mode of sorts.

Full minor league system, RK, A-, A, A+, AA, AAA.

In-depth stats.

Be able to play a game with every position occupied by a player on a pc connected via the internet. (Like UBO now "Cal Ripken's Real Baseball")

A have a list of all lists:

1. Have an editor that allows to create unlimited players, coaches, uniforms, stadiums, stats, audio sounds. NO LIMITS!

2. Full functional stadium creator to allow the creation of ANY future stadium. All Minor league teams have their OWN REAL ballpark.

3. 40 man roster during September.

4. Allow pitchers to pinch hit/run.

5. Have a sports ticker scroll at the bottom with the option to have real MLB scores or MVP simulated scores with highlight cutoffs during the game.

6. Automatically save game highlights in .avi.

7. Have menu in spreadsheet form. Shades of the early High Heat versions. You know what I mean.

8. Automatically save boxscores after every game in .txt/.htm format.

9. Set your scheduled games to FOX, ESPN, or local TV affiliate automatically.

10. Widescreen without stretching.
