Yoghurt
Hallo, what does the attribute "range" in mvp baseball mean, respectiveley imply? I think the fielding ability influences the player's ability to jump and reach well hit balls, but what does range actually mean? Has it to do with the ability to stretch and reach a ball? but if that's the point, what is the big difference between fielding and range?
ronmexico
It's how fast he is in the field, the speed he runs at, how much ground he can cover.
Yoghurt
thanks. but there is also the attribute "speed". I thought this criterion alone defines the speed he runs at.
kgbaseball
Range is more about quickness than pure speed
DeuceBlades
The more range a 3B has, the better he can play SS I hate it when he charges over to the SS side, and takes a grounder away from the SS. An easy play by the SS turns into a difficult play by the 3B, because he usually falls down, rolls over his ar$e and finally gets to his feet to throw out a runner. gowingsgo8803
Speed deals with how fast the runner is around the bases. Fielding deals with how well the fielder can actually field the ball on popups and grounders without making errors. Range deals with how quick they are in the field defensively, as well as how much they can reach and cover ground. In my Jays season, I've noticed that whenever a ball is smoked over a centre fielders head, Vernon is often able to reach over and grab it despite running with his back to the infield and not being terribly close to the fielding circle. Other guys, like Overbay at 1st and Stairs in LF, wont stand a chance at reaching something like that, because their fielding range is much lower than that of Wells/Rios/Hill (obviously)
