Homer
so I got this really old gateway computer i've had for like 10 years now. I had bought a 100gb hard drive for it way back when they first came out. the thing was that my motherboard doesn't recognize up to that size. so i had the guys at the computer store install it for me and they did something to allow it to read all 100 gb (or at least 90 or so) so i could make full use of the space. now, years down the line, i decided to wipe the drive clean and reinstall windows. now i can't get it to read the 100 gb. instead, i can only read 30 gb's of it. anyone know what i can do to make full use of the 100 gbs? ronmexico
What operating system is it running? Because XP made it possible to read drives over 32gb. If you are indeed running XP, format it NTFS.
cfree8988
If you go to the hard drive manufacturers site you can download their software and that will enable the entire drive to be used.
krawhitham
You can pick up and IDE card that plugs in a PCI or ISA slot that should allow for full capacity. They installed a software "loader" on the beginning of the HD (I would assume), it is possible that gateway released an updated bios flash for your computer so the loader would not be needed anymore (or the IDE card). If they have or if you get the card you will have to remove all data from the drive and reformat the drive then put the data back on the drive

Homer
i'm assuming they did something software wise because i haven't removed the drive or anything. it's still the same set up they had when they installed it.
