Question about MVP PC being played on PS3

Can it be done? I mean, the PS3 is like a computer. So I was wondering if I put in my MVP Baseball game and installed all the 07/08 updates if it would work.

Has anyone tried this?

Well it may work if you were to install a proper operating system onto the ps3. I have a linux system on mine and I've got a lot of PC games working on it. You may have to copy your game disk and re-write it in another format though for the blu-ray drive to read it.

I doubt the shadyness, if you're just copying the original game disk that you own and no one else uses it I see no problem. And there are pleanty of OS's out there that are all fully legal.

You barely have access to the graphics chip in the PS3 when you're on linux, I don't see how it will work out

This.

Actually, there are many hurdles getting the PC to work on PS3:

- Non-native OS like Linux

- PS3 blocking access to graphics hardware

- "Emulator"/Wrapper programs like WINE and Cedega exist but performance isn't guaranteed. I don't even know if those programs actually work on PS3 Linux distros.

I actually got screwed out of the last 80gb ps3 that they had at gamestop (where I got my trade in store credit so I had to buy it there), but tommorow I'm gonna head down to best buy, pick up a 320gb laptop hd n pop it into a 40gb ps3 which I should get tomorrow, and then use usb splitter for the 2 ports instead of 4. I don't need the PS2 emulator (especially since it's Software Emulation) because my brother has a PS2 which he doesn't wanna sell anyways. I shall keep you posted once I get all this together.

Got the PS3, waiting on the HDMI cables, got the $9.99 wireless keyboard and mouse set from walmart and waiting on the hard drive still. I'm installing Ubuntu after I do a system update on the 40gb edition, so we'll see how that goes.

I did the install but then it became too hasslesome to do it without an HDMI cable because I was having to work with it on a 576x384 resolution, and it's not really possible to do anything. Stupid component cables :

When I get those (either tomorrow or Monday), I'll give it another shot, though I might just wait for the new hard drive because that will make me not have to reinstall it again.

YDL isn't compatbile with WINE because it is only able to be run on PPC and WINE can only emulate on an x86 proc. The workarounds seem to involve Ubuntu because that is built for both types of architecture, and when I get home today I will burn the DVD and do that since I got my hdd and TV yesterday.

After trying to get the WiFi to work all night with YDL, no luck. I reformated the PS3 HDD but still have Kboot there, been reading about it being in the flash memory or something like that, can I not get rid of the bootloader? Does Ubuntu use a different bootloader? I am really just tryin to get the PS3 system back to the way it was when I opened the box so I can start the Ubunu install. Any ideas?

How could it be illegal to load a new OS on your PS3 anyways. It's your property, not there's.

HCL it's an option on the PS3 to install a new OS independent of the PS3 OS, I think it allocates about 10GB or so

I didn't know you could do that for the ps3. I know with the xbox over the years their have been difficulties with people changing the os on it because it is considered modding the xbox. The reason I said the legality was shady was because it is your property on one hand but the other is that Microsoft, for example, locks the xbox up on you if it is modded

PS3 comes with Linux capabilites because the people who designed it built it so it could run the linux kernel, there is even an option to "Install other OS" in the main menu (XMB).
