In MVPedit, all pitches I edit are 4-5 MPH faster in game

Let's say I give Pitcher A an 80 MPH curveball, every time I pitch with him in-game the pitch is actually 84-86 MPH. I am not holding down the pitch-meter to full strength, this occurs even when I stop at the red.

Any reason behind this or way to correct?

Right now, Joba Chamberlain's real life averages for pitch speed are...

Fastball: 95

Slider: 85

Curveball: 77

Change: 83

I have those exactly numbers entered in MVPedit but in game when I use Joba I see...

Fastball: 97-99

Slider: 88-89

Curveball: 84-85

Change: 86.

First thing is turn off variable stuff. This affects velocity. Also, if you are not holding the pitch meter down to full strength, slower pitches will speed up when thrown, in the same way that a less-than-full-strength fastball will be 2-3mph, or more, slower - because it isn't being thrown with full effectiveness.

If you throw a changeup, for maximum effectiveness, you want it to be as large a velocity change from your fastball as possible. So, if your pitcher has a 90mph fastball and an 80mph changeup in MVPEdit, throwing the changeup with full effectiveness should result in at least a 10mph differential between your fastball and changeup, as the pitcher makes more of an effort to get a bit more velocity on his fastball, and throws the changeup with full effort, thus slowing it down more - larger speed differential from the fastball.

someone knows their stuff lol

I've had variable stuff turned off from day one and I also understand the "maximum effort/effectiveness" and how it makes breaking pitches slower and fastballs faster. I experimented with this as well and it's still too fast even with maximum effectiveness.

I guess I'll just have to adjust accordingly, no biggie.

Actually, breaking and off-speed pitches become faster when used less effectively - that was what I meant in the last post. A changeup rated at 80 velocity might go down to 79 or 78 when thrown with full effectiveness, while it might go up to 81 or 82 when thrown with less than full effectiveness, as not as much effort is being made to slow the ball down on the pitch.

You might want to tinker with the datafile or reduce the speeds of pitches, or adjust the pitch speed slider.

I know that's what you meant and I understand that's how pitching works in the game, I guess I just assumed that in MVPedit (or even if you edit a roster in-game) the velocity setting was their average pitch speed, not their max-effort pitch speed.

When you play do you always throw off-speed pitches at max effectiveness?
