MclemoreKarros
So here we are, the Angels are starting the year 2008 with a new general manager and high expectations to win. Follow me and let's see what happens!
MclemoreKarros
2008 regular season is just about to start, but the Angels didn't wait till the deadline to upgrade their team offensively as they felt there was a strong need for another big bat in the lineup. On March, 30th the Halos sent right handed Ervin Santana, the odd man out in the rotation, to the Indians, for CF Grady Sizemore and minor league veteran SS Jorge Velandia. The Tribe also got LF Juan Rivera in the trade. Only time will tell if this is a win-win trade, as many pointed out that Rivera could have a brilliant season after and injury-marred 2007. Grady Sizemore is about to begin his first major league season far from Cleveland.
MclemoreKarros
LA ANGELS 7 - 9 MINNESOTA TWINS The first game of the season is just gone, and the Angels can not be too happy about it, as they lost to the Minnesota Twins, 9 to 7. Thanks to a pedestrian start by John Lackey, the home team was able to score six runs between the third and the fourth inning, with three 2-run shots by Delmon Young, Alexi Casilla and Adam Everett. Angels ace then recovered for a perfect fifth before leaving the game. Dustin Moseley and Darren Oliver couldn't stop the Twins offense. Meanwhile, the Halos offense started slowly but rallied for four runs in the ninth off Jesse Crain and Joe Nathan. However, the game ended when Vlad Guerrero was picked off at second base with Torii Hunter on first and the potential winning run at the plate represented by Rob Quinlan. Grady Sizemore was outstanding in his debut as a Halo, going 3for5 and finishing a homer shy from the cycle. MclemoreKarros
LA ANGELS 6 - 1 MINNESOTA TWINS The Angels got it altogether during the second game of the year and now have even the series against the Twins. Torii Hunter launched the first Halo homer of the season against Boof Bonser as the victory was never in discussion. The Twins managed to get seven hits, one for each man in the lineup except for Carlos Gomez and Adam Everett, while the Angels had only five, including two from Vlad. Grady Sizemore went 1for4 with 2 rbi. Justin Speier shut the door for three fames after Kelvim Escobar left due to high pitch count. MclemoreKarros
How are former Halos doing? Let's take a look: Ervin Santana has not pitched in a game yet Juan River came off the bench during the second game of the season and went 1for2 with a run scored. It's clear that the Tribe won't give him an everyday job, it seems instead that he will platoon in left with David Dellucci. MclemoreKarros
LA ANGELS 9 - 0 MINNESOTA TWINS Halos grabbed game three of the 4-game series and are now 2-1, thanks to a gem by John Garland in his LA debut. Former White Sock was perfect trough the first three innings of work, then settled down for three hits and four walks while striking out nine Twins. Manager Mike Scioscia took it as an occasion to dig the depth chart, as everyone on the bench but Mike Napoli and Anderson took the field. Vladdy again left his mark on the game going 2for5 and 3rbi, connecting for his second double of the season: he is now hitting .538 and leads the bigs. Grady and Vlad are now on a three-game hitting streak. During an interview, new Halo left fielder set the tone for this season: -I'm really proud to be here, and hopefully the team gets it done and we're in september as we want to do, man these guys are great- he said. Asked if he prefers center over left, he replied -None of my business as long as I'm in the lineup, and when I look to my left there is Torii, so I feel even safer- Los Angeles Angels Hitters AB R H RBI BB SO AVG Chone Figgins 3B 3 2 2 2 1 0 .333 Brandon Wood PH 1 0 0 0 0 1 .000 Grady Sizemore LF 4 2 1 0 0 1 .385 Vladimir Guerrero RF 5 0 2 3 0 1 .538 Torii Hunter CF 2 0 0 1 3 0 .333 Gary Matthews Jr. DH 4 0 1 0 1 1 .167 Casey Kotchman 1B 1 1 0 0 1 0 .167 Robb Quinlan PH 2 0 0 0 0 0 .000 Howie Kendrick 2B 2 1 1 0 0 0 .300 Maicer Izturis PH 2 0 0 0 0 1 .000 Jeff Mathis C 5 1 1 1 0 0 .167 Erick Aybar SS 4 2 1 1 1 0 .167 Totals 35 9 9 8 7 5 .257 BATTING 2B: Chone Figgins (1); Vladimir Guerrero (2); Gary Matthews Jr. (1); RBI: Erick Aybar (1); Torii Hunter (5); Chone Figgins 2 (2); Vladimir Guerrero 3 (4); Jeff Mathis (1); HBP: Casey Kotchman (1); Grady Sizemore (1); IBB: Gary Matthews Jr. (1); BASERUNNING SB: Chone Figgins (2); Grady Sizemore 3 (4); Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO PC ERA Jon Garland (W, 1-0) 9.0 3 0 0 4 9 96 0.00 Totals 9.0 3 0 0 4 9 96 0.00 PITCHING TBF: Jon Garland 34; Garland hurled a nine ks shotout agains the Twins yesterday
MclemoreKarros
LA ANGELS 7 - 0 MINNESOTA TWINS It looked even too easy when the Halos shut out the Twins for the second day in a row, claiming a seven-to-nothing win which sends them 3-1 on the season. A good Jered Weaver went six strong innings but struggled a bit with control, walking four in the first four frames, before Justin Speier cruised trough the eight and Bootcheck closed out the game with a perfect ninth. Grady went 1for4 with 2 stolen bases (now leads the majors with five) and Guerrero added a single as they continue their streaks, but the brightest star of the night was Maicer Izturis who went 3for3 in his first start and also launched a homer to right field. GA had an RBI single while Torii was hitless in his second consecutive game. On the other side, Minnesota pitching staff looks a bit unexperienced to hold a potent Halo lineup, with Kevin Slowey forced to leave the game after five. -Definitely a game to put behind my back- said Slowey
MclemoreKarros
A CLOSER LOOK: - A's second baseman Mark Ellis leads the majors with a .567 average to go with 2 homers and 7rbi. Ellis has now a sluggin pct over 1000. - Juan Rivera went hitless in his first start with the Tribe (0-3) - Jorge Velandia is 1for5 after the first AA game of the season, which the Arkansas Travelers lost to the Wranglers, 4to3. - Justin Speier is still unhittable after 5.1 frames of work. He has struckout four and walked just one. Meanwhile, in his first start of the season Randy Johnson allowed just a hit and a walk over seven innings. MclemoreKarros
TEXAS RANGERS 4 - 6 LA ANGELS A ninth inning rally -and a mistake by Angels bullpen- nearly costed home-come Halos their fourth win in a row, but they held up in the end with K-Rod's first save. After Scot Shields came up for a stellar Joe Saunders (4hits -but a homer- and 2runs over eight frames) to pitch the ninth with a four run lead, things went wild: a leadoff double by Michael Young and a triple by Josh Hamilton sent a message to which Mike Scioscia responded by calling for K-Rod. He could not figure out Francisco had started to warm up too late and wasn't ready to get into the game: an angry Scioscia then asked for a intentional walk to Bradley and sent Chris Bootcheck to the mound, and the righty got two outs with a double play ball that scored Hamilton. That was enough to let K-Rod in for a one-pitch save. -A huge lack of communication happened tonight- said Scioscia -but everything ended up well so I wouldn't make a problem out of that. Sure, things need to take their right place from now on-. Luckily, Halos were backed up by 6 runs, three of them driven in by Napoli with a 3-run shot to left, and got two more hits from Grady Sizemore who was hitless till the sixth and reached first on a strange pop up that Kinsler lost in the sun for a hit. Kotchman also was 3for4 with an rbi. MclemoreKarros
TEXAS RANGERS 13 - 9 LA ANGELS Fans left the park happy for the slugfest (or maybe hitfest) they saw, but they cannot be happy with Halos pitching corp, completely derailed in this game. Ace John Lackey turned in his second horrible start of the season, giving up seven runs on nine hits and two more jacks to the opposite offense. But what sounded most unusual is the fall of relief staff, which was roughed up for six runs in an inning. Scot Shields' ERA is now sailing to the moon as he allowed three runs over 0.1 inning (135.00), and K-Rod looked out of place as he gave up three hits and a bases-loaded walk. There willl be much to think about, but the offense had another monster night, scoring nine on 21 hits, mostly singles. Halos had six 3hits performances, by Sizemore, Guerrero, Anderson, Kendrick, Aybar and Matthews, who batted in 4 runs. Former Indian Sizemore is now on a six game hitting streak. Josh Hamilton had another 0for5 effort and is now hitting .062 for the season, but Milton Bradley and David Murphy lived a huge night, combining for 6 hits and 11 rbi. DeuceBlades
I like this, its looking promising. I do want to say to the guys who think the Indians got the better deal are crazy!!! but IMHO The Tribe would never make a move like that, because the 3 players involved, dont even equal up to Sizemore by half. You would have to throw in Aybar, then it would be a fair trade to me. But anyway, looking forward to more of this :wtg:
MclemoreKarros
Well Blades they accepted as a no-brainer so that they could fill the hole in the rotation with Santana and put a power hitter in the lineup...so far Rivera is struggling and Sizemore is riding a 8-game hitting streak so it looks like a Halo Win...I'll let know how the situation goes on. However thank you for your comment

The catcher went 3for5 with 4rbi to fuel the rally which began in the seventh after the Rangers scored 4 in the top of the frame. Both pitchers struggled in their second outing after a dominant start of the season, as Escobar allowed seven runs on 8 hits during 4.1 innings and Millwood surrendered 8 with 15 hits in 4.2. Bootcheck wasn't better for Halos and even Gabbard and CJ Wilson (a blown save) were banged, with only Darren Oliver and Joaquin Benoit delivering a solid inning each. In both lineup only Marlon Byrd didn't get a hit, as the teams combined for 34. Grady Sizemore was 3for5 and raised his avg to .438 and Aybar had 3 hits too. MclemoreKarros
CLEVELAND INDIANS 1 - 2 LA ANGELS For the first time after seven games the Halos and the Tribe have had the opportunity to verify the results of the blockbuster trade that sent Sizemore to LA and Ervin Santana and Juan Rivera to Progressive Field. Well, it was G-Size day as the left fielder drove in the winning run with a single in the eight inning, avoiding the risks of a 0for4 night to mantain is 8-game hitting streak alive. It was even more a pitcher's day, as Jon Garland and Fausto Carmona silenced the bats for their second straight start. Carmona went 7.2 and allowed just two hits to Vlad till Aybar singled and was batted in by a Chone Figgins' triple. Then G-Size connected for the decisive single. Meanwhile, Garland lasted 6.2 surrendering five hits and a first inning run, striking out seven. Shield turned in his best outing of the season, perfect trough 1.1, and K-Rod shut the door after a Juan Rivera single (seems like he is becoming Tribe's regular left fielder, hitting second, but his average is now under .200). -Well, I was happy when I came here and I'm even happier now. You know a streak is just a streak, but it gives you indications for this year, and since I feel so healty and optimistic, I think this season is going to be great- said Garland during an interview. -I thank the Tribe, they made me the player that I am and it sounds strage me driving in the winning run, but that is what baseball is about, and I was congratulated by the guys- added G-Size. MclemoreKarros
CLEVELAND INDIANS 8 - 13 LA ANGELS Angels great start of the season now says 7-2 after last night shellacking of the Tribe, which only managed to get 4 runs on the board in the ninth off Dustin Moseley till Oliver shut the door for the last out. What sounded strange is that we had another hit-festival, and for a franchise which is about pitching like the Halos this is quite an alarm. Jered Weaver got the win, allowing three earned runs over six-plus innings, but he also had 13 hits to show up for. Moseley had two perfect frames till the ninth but couldn't hold up, so the offense had to set up everything for the win, with 24 hits and 13 runs. Vlad hit his first tater of the season and went 4for5 with 5rbi while G-Size continued his streak by going 2for4. Other notables were Kendrick, who had three hits in the leadoff spot, Torii Hunter (3for5), Izturis (also 3for5) and rookie Brandon Wood, who got the nod at third over Figgins and went 4for5. Juan Rivera delivered 3 hits agains his former team and "Pronk" Hafner had 4. SeanRobinson
Looks good so far! I think the Tribe won that one if this were real life, as they solidified the rotation with Santana--Blades, I'm pretty sure Santana's performance demonstrates that he's nearly equal to Sizemore (maybe throw in a minor league prospect), but putting Rivera in there, too, is a bit overkill, esp. given the power he's showing. In the game-world, though, I think the Halos win it. The CPU's not smart enough to put Rivera in the starting job and Santana doesn't tend to do so well for some reason.
