baseball_jones
Eventually the Twins, after many thousands of games played under the teflon coated fiberglass of the Metrodome, will play outdoor baseball at a stadium that is currently under construction in downtown Minneapolis near the Target Center (Minnesota Timberwolves). The progress is going well and I am very happy for the organization and it's fans. I am a die-hard Twins fan and have been for 20+ years. I no longer live in Minnesota but when I return I will be very happy to see the new stadium and baseball they way it was meant to be played. At present I have not the skill, time or patience to create a new Twins Ballpark for MVP 2005. What I am wondering though is this... If one were to mod an already existing stadium to resemble the new Twins Ballpark which park would they choose and what steps would be taken to accomplish this? Now I am not talking about altering 3D Models which I have not the training nor experience to accomplish rather altering the appearance of logos, adds, and removing and replacing buildings. I am not looking for advice on what programs to use I understand they are available. I am more interested in planning a practical plan to achieve a makeshift replica until someone with the skills to actually build a stadium from scratch would be up to the task. Just some thoughts on an interesting idea.
kgbaseball
Stupidest idea ever to have it be an outdoor stadium.
catzrthecoolest
They should at least have a retractable roof The stupidest indoor stadium would be tropicana field, no?
kgbaseball
Nah, with all the rain they get in Florida, it makes sense. The only problem with Tropicana is that it's hideous.
HFLR
Stupidest idea ever to have it be an outdoor stadium. Beated it to me, can't wait for April games there.
Kayxero
Yeah from what announcers say, the rain outs really attribute to the Marlins having poor attendance. I mean fans do not wanna consistently go to games with rain delays and postponements seeing as not all have the chance to go back for make up games. kgbaseball
THe fact that it's 90+ and 100% humidity doesn't help attendance either
Kayxero
Get the marlins a new stadium. I do not want to see owners trying to bail and move teams again like they did with the Seattle SuperSonics this year. Fans first.
ro290190
Sports inside sucks, all of them should be played outdoors
Yankee4Life
Stupidest idea ever to have it be an outdoor stadium. Maybe so KG, but they Twins by doing this are returning to their roots. The used to play in an outdoor stadium called Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota. They shared that park with the NFL Vikings up until when they moved into the Homerdome in 1982. The cold April and May night as well as October nights are going to be once again a factor when they move outside. I can remember early this year during an April game where it was snowing outside and the Twins were playing a game. If there is one place that needs a dome, it's Minnesota. Here's a drawing of the old Twins park:
baseball_jones
The purpose of this thread was intended to be a brainstorming platform for a Twins Ballpark mod. But It is good to hear opinions on the actual stadium itself. Let me assure you as a native Minnesotan that if you think the weather or temperature stops us from seeing a sporting event or enjoying anything outside for that matter you are mistaken. Anything above or near freezing is springtime in Minnesota. Attendance will not be an issue. Wear a sweatshirt if it is cold. As far as rain... It rains in Kansas City and Chicago too. (It does not however rain in Southern California) The idea of a dome for most fans is novel. I can imagine being excited to see your team play in the Metrodome just for the novelty that it is baseball inside. Now watching your hometown team play in the Metrodome for the last 25 years is different. I believe baseball, if possible, should not be played inside a building. I have my own nostalgic reasons for being at least a little sad to see baseball leave the Metrodome. I watched Kirby Pucket, Kent Hrbeck and Gary Gaetti play there. Two of the most amazing and entertaining World Series were won in the Metrodome. I have enjoyed games there for 25 years! I had the opportunity to watch the Twins play the Padres at Petco a couple of months ago. It was amazing. I mean you have to imagine what is feels like for a Twins fan of 25 years to see their hometown team play baseball outside for the [ul]first time[/ul] ever. I felt like a kid. So everyone is welcome to their opinion of course but the fact remains. The Twins will play baseball outside in 2010 and I am interested in a stadium mod that reflects this. SESbb30
Stupidest idea ever to have it be an outdoor stadium. ditto. and tropicana field makes a ton of sense, its in southern florida, its rains like ever day, and how many rain outs have the marlins had over the years compared to the rays? ponder that question for a while.
