New PC Suggestions

Hey guys. As the title says, I am in the market for a new tower. I have just spent good money on a ps3 and it fulfills certain gaming needs. However, my pc has MVP, emulators, and other games I love to play. I have been fighting with myself to buy a new pc for months, thinking that PC gaming was still more expensive than console gaming. Not in this gen it isnt. After I spent about 750 bux for my ps3, accessories and games, It has sure evened out over the years. And this is before I almost dropped 2000 bucks for a new 120hz 1080p 40" inch Samsung.

I feel I need to upgrade so I can finally play newer games again. I can Play MVP on max settings, but only at 1024 by 768. I have always wanted the max resolution with max AA and max AF, however a crappy radeon 9200se will not do this.

My system was built 4 or 5 yrs ago. Pentium 4 3.2ghz Northwood Core HT cpu. 1.25 gigs of I believe pc3200 ddr ram. And the previously mentioned vid card. At the time it was a get me by system, and I was playing alot of xbox back then, so pc gaming was not a priority.

I have been out of the pc building game since then, and everything has gone over my head. Dual cores have come out, L caches are even bigger, video cards have come and gone, and ram is a great deal faster. Not to mention that AGP has definitely gone the way of the dino since then.

My tower price limit is about $1000 after tax. Crysis is what I base my new pc build against. Not that I ever played it, but as I hear it pwns many pcs and laughs in there faces even with good hardware. Is it possible for me to have a system that runs it smoothly and at a good resolution and effects setting with the money I can spend.

Could you guys make newegg.com suggestions as I always purchase there. I was just going to buy a premade tower, seeing as I have been out of the game so long, I felt itd be too much hassle to do my own build. And I always have known its cheaper to build it yourself then going to a retail store, but how much cheaper is it nowadays, especially considering neweggs cheap prices already.

This I saw and it has 4 gigs and its less than 600 and it has a tri core cpu

This ones godly, but is over my spending cap. Those caught my eye quickly but I am not sure how much things should really be worth nowadays in a build.

So hardware and tower suggestions please =D

Thanx alot.

You would be better off just building yourself if you know how. I just built a Mid to High end PC for my Uncle in law last week, Q6600, 4gb OCZ DDR2, 750 GB HDD, Abit Mobo(dont remember which) He didnt need a big time GFX card so I threw in a 8600 GT XXX(Very good card for the money) Flash Reader, and last but not least a Lite On Blu Ray drive.

Parts came out to just under 700 after tax. I compared this system to one at Sams Club and you easily save yourself anywhere from 200-500 bucks.

I have the Q6600 myself and it screams but I have noticed that some of the other Quad Cores are starting to drop in price now.

That seems comparable to the first link I provided. How does the Q6600 compare to that tri core in the first. I know its a quad , but how much do I lose in performance.

And what video cards to you recommend for playing newer games and decent settings without breaking the bank.

Im really considering building again. But I used to get so annoyed by getting the right fans, and right temps, because pentium 4s used to run so hot and my room can sometimes get humid. Do the new cpu's get too hot?

Edit: Nvm I read the specs, and the 6600 l2 cache is much greater than the tri core. Still would like vid card recommendations. Also the vid card, did you buy it or already have it?
