Toleton
Hi Folks: Reviewing some threads at the forum regarding stadiums, they talk about "Collision Data" and "coll.dat" file. Just asking the stadium experts, what are this for??, can I improve something on stadiums with it??
Sean O
Why don't you tell us what you'd like to improve, and then we can tell you what's possible? coll.dat is for non-homer/foul ground related collision outside of the field. wall.dat is for homers / foul ground. Thanks Sean O for your attention. OK so I have situations where I replace for instance one original stadium for a classic stadium and then you find some mismatches like bullpen on people´s seats or players sitting on the middle of the ground instead of the bench or fielders going through a wall for catching a fly, etc. It seems for me, being a rookie on this, that there is a problem of non fitting dimensions between the replaced stadium and the one I install. I know it has to do with the stadium.txt file so if you now the stadium from which it was build up or modified then you take the corresponding stadium.txt for putting in the data folder and voilá. Sometime you can guess, but sometimes you do not know the ¨source¨stadium. So I am looking on the things I can edit on stadium.txt or others to correct the problem, if you can advice on that it would be great.
Sean O
Yeah, the bullpen/dugout problem is a whole 'nother can of worms. Fortunately CC720 and rolie have done some excellent work on dealing with datafile related issues, but the basic answer is it's different from pure stadium modding. It's not a simple drag-and-drop solution either, it involves hacking through arcane entries in a .txt file, much of which we don't know. While I'm not happy with it, most of my parks have no solution for dugouts/bullpens for a reason. It is a nightmare.

I got your point about this issue, so must keep guessing stadium base in the mean time and taking the stadium.txt for matching views with dimensions more or less. I just did with your LA Coliseum version from 2007 which I like a lot and amazingly best match was with comeday.txt, do not ask me how I figured it out, was empirical guessing + trials & errors. Your work with Orioles stadium is fine too in my opinion, and also Pirates works, so lets keep modding!!!
HardcoreLegend
So, like, if I added a tarp to in foul territory, how would I make it 'detectable' collision wise?
Sean O
So, like, if I added a tarp to in foul territory, how would I make it 'detectable' collision wise? You would have to put the wall.dat around it, unfortunately. So players would assume that the wall just randomly juts in, rather than there being a physical object there. It shouldn't affect matters too much though, as they can still lean over it to make catches. ..like that jerk did over the short bullpen well at Fenway against me the other day.
