tdmavens
Does anyone know where to look (i.e. a website, etc.) to find information on a pitcher's pitches, as well as some information on how to translate that info into "Control" and "Velocity," ratings for MVP Baseball 2005? I understand "Velocity" is a bit easier to decipher once I am able to find a scouting report about a pitcher, but does anyone have ideas on how to rate "Control" of different pitches? Has anyone done this successfully with realistic in-game results? Thanks!!

Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/Neyer-James-Guide-Pi...22225615&sr=8-1 For ratings and control, I also used the sim Baseball Mogul, which lets you sim any season you want and it has ratings very similar to those used by MVP2005. Here's a link to Baseball Mogul: http://www.sportsmogul.com/games/baseball2k9.html The 2009 version is $24.95, but you might be able to find older versions for less. tdmavens
Thank you for the info. I am doing all my updates manually on my Wii (I have the GameCube verison). I have nearly completed every roster to be current as of this baseball season as it comes to an end. I have used various threads and documents (many from Rashidi, who does excellent roster updates for many games). My hope is to use recent stats (the past 3 seasons, as espn.com and foxsports have the option of showing averages and totals over the past 3 seasons) to factor in for NEW and UPDATED ratings for the 2009 season. I hope to be fully complete by the beginning of next season. I am focusing on the Major Leagues, as well as AAA players and other top prospects who either won organization awards or were called up to the bigs any time during this season. I want the ratings to be as close as possible, so again, thank you for your help. Regarding the Baseball Mogul suggestion, do you mean to say that if I get my hands on this game and simulate through a season, the game will provide fairly accurate ratings that can be easily transferred (by hand, of course) to MVP Baseball 2005? If so, haha, is there an easier way, haha? Thanks again for your help. I enjoy updating rosters almost as much as I enjoy playing the game itself, haha! meteamo
Good luck with your quest. As far as the Baseball Mogul is concerned: You don't need to sim a year in Baseball Mogul. You can create a "dynasty" starting in any year starting with the year 1900 or so. They have accurate stats (or so I think) for just about every player depending on which year your start your "dynasty". They have accurate MLB rosters and some Minor league guys (but not as in depth as MVP) and the ratings are good too. You can create a league in 1975 or 1995 and get the appropriate information from each team in each year. You can I think export the information to an Excel spreadsheet which you can later move to Access. Also, if you google lahman's database, they have access databases regarding the pro baseball players. I'm not sure what info that has but it may be worth looking into. And if you enjoy the rosters, Baseball Mogul would be nice since you can for history sake check out what the lineups were for the Dodgers in the last year of Brooklyn or when Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle was on the Yankees. Another thing that is interesting is the Award and HOF list they have. The lists again depend upon which year you start your dynasty in. You can check to see who won the MVP or ROY in the same year or how many Yankees won the ROY. Even if you don't play the game, it's a cool app for informational and statistical purposes. Jim825
Like meateamo said, you don't actually have to play Baseball Mogul (and in fact I never have). When I've worked on the classic single season mods (1951, 1956, 1978), I simply selected the year I wanted and then went through each team's pitchers to get their ratings, pitch types, etc.
tdmavens
Thank you for your help. I may, in fact, go the Baseball Mogul route, but I have another question then. Since I want to include players' end of the year stats (for this 2008 season) when I update the ratings, will those stats be available through Baseball Mogul? Does it have some type of update feature through which it can acquire THIS season's stats, and utilize those to create updated ratings?
