tebjr
OK, I'm not the best at Photoshop, but I'm trying to create some screens and backgrounds to use for a Braves dynasty, and here's what I've got so far. This is a shot that TBS used to advertise an upcoming game. I tried as much as possible to match the actual screen, but blending is certainly not my thing, so here's what I've got. Bash away. Mine: TBS:
RdSoxFan618
Pretty good!!!! One thing: The background needs to be changed. Try a texture or a brush. (A texture should work). And one other thing, the "ET" Eastern Timezone, that black box layer has an outer-glow/drop-shadow (I can never remember which; just do a white outer glow). Not bad though, work on the background. EDIT: Oh and the pitcher, what'd you cut him out with? His hat looks a little strange. Try using the polygonal lasso tool to cut him out.
wrigleyville33
Actually, you should use the pen tool for cutting. There are numerous tuts across the web. You should also find some textures (stocks) to put in the background to add some depth. You can then screw around with the blending options, etc.
tebjr
Thanks RdSox. Do you think the light and dark blue in the background should have the same texture? With the pitcher, I just put the image on a transparent background, and erased around him.
RdSoxFan618
Thanks RdSox. Do you think the light and dark blue in the background should have the same texture? With the pitcher, I just put the image on a transparent background, and erased around him. Here's what I'd do. I'd make the background color that light shade of blue. Then I'd put the dark blue vector over it and have a 'transparent' polka dot type texture with the dots close to each other. Then in front of the light blue, I'd have low-opacity vertical text (or a path of text) reading TBS (that's what I think it says). Also try setting character spacing a little farther apart in BRAVES and ASTROS. (so it's like B R A V E S)

RdSoxFan618
Nah, the textures come with the program. Do this: Right click on the layer w/ the dark blue and click blending options. Click on Texture and choose Optical Checkerboard. Make the scale really small (I'd say around 25 and the depth ~+30 Or: http://aless1984.deviantart.com/art/Polka-...-white-34902951 Download that brush, make a new layer, make a selection of the dark blue area on that layer, and add in the polka dots and lower the opacity. That'll give you probably the most realistic effect. (Use the diagonal polka dot brush obviously)

RdSoxFan618
Good, BUT, do it again, but only select the dark blue to put the texture over (You can probably do this with the magic wand if the dark and light blue are on the same layer). The light blue has nothing going over it except a really big vertical text saying TBS.

I tried to get the vertical TBS lettering in, but that's beyond my skills right now.
GEOLINK
the light blue side says TBS going vertically with a white font and it's alittle transparent.
wrigleyville33
Thanks Wrigley. Any good sites with free textures? Yes tebjr, they are everywhere. You can download some across graphic sites like o2designz.com, sportsgfx.net. Those stocks are in the resource section of each site. You can also just search images on flickr.com and edit the stocks to your liking in ps. Maybe you could even tryout different sig tuts around the net, it will get you familiar with some of the tools very very fast.

Mine: TBS: You might also want to enlarge the text of the words "Braves" and "Astros". Make the Braves text bold, while the "Astros" text should stay the same, just bigger.
