Need Some Help Please.

Hello,

I'm new to the site - used to play MVP on my XBOX - and recently got the game for my PC. I want to create some of my favourite players from the past (put their portraits into the game and if possible find their cyberfaces as well).

My favourite player of all time is Darryl Strawberry, so I will use him as an example of what I wish to do. I downloaded his Cyber Face by jogar84 - it looks awesome. However, I'm unsure of what to do next. I can't open the file. I downloaded MVPEdit - thinking that I needed to run this with the game to do the edits. So basically, what I'm saying is that I'm pretty lost on what I should do and the process I should follow to do it. I've searched this site for answers but I haven't found anything that makes sense of works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hollywood

Welcome to the site.

There are a few conversion mods already out there with Strawberry in it.

There's the 1988 season mod, Hory's 1994 season mod, and he's also in the Total Classics conversion.

If you're interested in old-time baseball, check out our series of Total Classics mods, which are available here. The Total Classics guys have created multiple single-season mods which can be used for exhibitions, dynasties or franchises, such as the 1969, 1951, 1988, 1956, 1964, 1978, 1967 and 1961 seasons. There is also the Total Classics package, which contains a bunch of best ever teams that were fielded in single seasons. There's also a 1994 mod around somewhere, but, for some reason, I can't find it.

Welcome to the site!

Two good threads to get started on modding your game are The big, nasty, all-encompassing FAQ list! and my very own MVP Baseball 2005 for Dummies.

To get Darryl Strawberry into your game, you need to create a new player in MVPEdit and assign the cyberface you downloaded to him. Just make sure you don't overwrite an existing cyberface!

Or just download one of the conversion mods tebjr and MarkB suggested. ;)

OK, I've got the MVPedit downloaded and running on my computer. However, I can't do anything in the program. I would like to create a player in with MVPedit and I've read the FAQ about loading your roster and I can't find any .mbe files. Any suggestions? What am I missing?

How do I load my roster for the first time?

This depends on how you have got your roster to begin with. If the file you downloaded comes as a .mbe file, then simply open MVPEdit and click Open from the toolbar, then find the .mbe file. Click the Open button and the file will load so that you can view it and make changes to it. If you want to use the roster set you already have in MVPEdit or if you have downloaded a roster with lots of .dat files, open MVPEdit then click Import from the toolbar. You will be shown a folder location section with 2 buttons, OK and Cancel. Double-click on the database folder so that you see something similar to the following;

import0vj.png

then click OK. You will then be asked where you want to save the file. Choose anywhere you want, but for convenience, you can use the MVPEdit folder. Choose a name for the file, then click Save and the files will be imported from your game directory and you can then view and edit them as you wish. From now on, instead of importing every time, you can just use the Open button to load the file you just created, which will be a .mbe file.

Hey Mark B,

Yeah, I've been able to get to that screen or step but I don't actually have a roster or anything to save. I end up making-up a file name and then get told that the file doesn't exist and the MVPedit program closes. Is there a roster somewhere that I'm supposed to be using or something? I'm running just the MVP Baseball 2005 on a clean install.

Hey sorry for being such a puts... I wish I was better at this stuff. I appreciate the help, advice and patience very much. I'm sure this is easy for most of you.

Sounds like you were trying to import from the data directory instead of the database directory. The files MVPEdit needs to create a roster file (.mbe) are in the database directory. Anyway, as long as you've got it working now, great. :) Let us know if you have any further problems.

No need to apologise either - we were all rookies at this once. Once you get the hang of how to do this sort of stuff, it'll become second nature - you'll be able to do it in your sleep, or when it's 4am, you start work in 5 hours, and you just need to get one more team's roster completed before bed. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Following the advice from the various sources mentioned above... looking at making some of my own cyber faces. I've recently downloaded Homer's Video Tutorial but when I go to run it with DivX 6.0 it says there is no video in the file. Also, after a search for jogar84's The Essential Cyberface Making Tutorial I haven't been able to come up with anything. Anyone got a working link to either of these tutorials?

Thanks,

there have been several versions of a strawberry face too. at least two in the TC series (baseballfans' and bodhiball's). i have one in my classic pack and jogar also released another one in 08. you can find all of them in the downloads.

Hey Homer,

Thanks for the link and the advice. I've downloaded both your's and jogar's - both are awesome btw - but I can't open the files - not sure what I'm doing wrong. So I figured I'd try making my own. But believe me, I'd rather - for the time being - just download one but haven't had much success.

when you download them, the files you download are zipped up. all you need to do to open them is download a program called Winrar. you can use the free trial version. you actually never need to even purchase it. once you install it, right click the file you downloaded and there should be an option "Extract to...(name of file)." This will extract them into a new folder by the same name for you. after that, each tutorial should come with a readme or some sort of instructions.

OK, I've got Strawberry's Cyberface downloaded properly now. I've read both the guides:

I have created a player in MVPEdit, but don't know what face to give him.

Using MVPEdit, go to the Appearance tab, then look at the middle-right section and you'll find a "Face" field. In here, you input the face number you want to use. If you want to use a cyberface, install the cyberface, then set this field to the face number mentioned in the readme file that came with the download.

2.) Cyberfaces

Cyberfaces are stored in the data/models.big file. There are three files that make up a cyberface in the game: c000.fsh, c000.ord, c000.orl (valid numbers: 001-900!). While the FSH file contains the image of the player, the ORD and ORL files contain the model data (head shape and mapping information). The cyberfaces in MVP come in two different styles. Most are 05 style (full face) and some are 04 style, where half of the face is mirrored. Both come in two sizes, either 128x256 pixels (original) or 256x512 (2x textures).

Examples:

05 style:

04 style:

Cyberface files have to match the player's cyberface ID!

Example:

Vladimir Guerrero: cyberface ID = 12

Cyberface files: c012.fsh, c012.ord, c012.orl (in models.big!)

WARNING: All three cyberface files have to be compressed or the game will crash!

but I'm still unsure what I do to actually install Strawberry's cyberface into the game. I believe I'm supposed to put it into mvpedit but how exactly do I do that?

that's the part where you need to make some decisions. depending on the roster you use, most of not all the cyberface slots will be used up. if they aren't all used, you need to find a number that isn't used and assign it to that box. then rename your cyberface files to match that number. if they are all used, you will need to find a cyberface number that belongs to someone else and assign it to your new player.

we'll do this step by step so that we get it done right. but start by figuring out a number you can assign your guy.

I've looked in the database and datafile in the MVP Baseball 2005 program files under the data/models.big file. When I open this file all I see are almost 5000 pages of the following:

Âu005j.fsh ñú¤ EKf005j.fsh ò?ð

wa005j.fsh òKh ÷®u005o.fsh öC iÜf005o.fsh öô lg006.fsh ÷K` x[g006.ord ÷ü Hg006.orl ÷Ë tõu006a.fsh ü?ü <Qf006a.fsh ü|P 3Ðu006b.fsh ° QLf006b.fsh l *íu006g.fsh ,\ E›f006g.fsh qø ŒÁu006h.fsh þ¼ E›f006h.fsh DX ÷Ñu006j.fsh

I don't think I'm looking in the right place. I don't see any fsh, ord or orl files. Where do I look for these numbers - ugh, I'm such an idiot with this, thanks for the patience.

I've opened the models.big file using Word. I can kind of see the c000.fsh, c000.orl, c000.ord code thing... but there are a bunch of other numbers and symbols around them as well (see above post for what I'm talking about).

I believe c718 (which is the pre-assigned value for the Strawberry cyberface that I downloaded) is available. If it is not, I'm cool with overwriting whoever's face it is. So I believe I've selected and found a number that is available and I think I'm ready for the next step.

if you're opening the models.big, you should open it with EAgraph. it's listed in the tutorial. but double check to make sure no one else is using it. it won't cause much of a problem unless there is another guy listed with it and he happens to be white. he'll have strawberry's face with white arms. but if it is used, you'll want to assign him a generic face and set the 04 to no.

anyhow, assuming you're sticking with 718:

1. assign that number to strawberry in MVPEdit, make sure to assign the 04/05 assignment correctly.

2. rename the three cyberface files so they have 718 in them. zip them up and install them with ***.

3. you'll probably want to add a portrait and audio.
