Sipimi
I asked this question in another post not related to this, so I'll ask it again: Do I have to follow a certain installation order as for patch installation in order for my game to work properly? For example, do I have to 1- install patch #2, then patch #3, then patch #5 or 2- can I only install patch #5 right away? I installed patch #5 just after installing the game...but MVP doesn't run well on my computer (but I can play Madden 08 and NBA 2k9 at highest resolution). I was also wondering: could I install patch #2 and #3 and then reinstall patch #5? I'm asking you this because I don't want to try unless I'm sure that it will work because I'm out of the country for a year and I only brought CD #2 with me...so if the game crashes, I won't be able to play until next year (!!!). Thanks for your advice!
Jim825
Each patch builds upon the previous patch. That means that patch #2 includes everything that was in patch #1, patch #3 includes everything that was in patches #1 and #2, etc. There was a major change in patch #4 that changed the format of the roster files. MVPEdit had to be modified to handle this change. If you don't do any roster editing, then you don't really have to worry about it. Personally, I never installed any patches after patch #2, and I've never had any problems.
Sipimi
So, do you think it's possible for me to go back to patch #2 only by installing it over patch #5 without making the game crash? I would like to try that because I can't find out what is the problem related to the poor performance of my computer with MVP 05... (maybe Vista?) Jim825
that's interesting to know. what was this change that occured? cuz i don't know anything about it either. There was a change in the format of the attrib.dat file. If you tried importing the post-Patch #4 version of the roster .dat files into the older version of MVPEdit (2005.4), you would get an error message. That's why RGlass released a newer version (2006.2) that would work with these newer format .dat files. If you tried opening unpatched roster files with the newer MVPEdit, you would also get an error message. What's interesting is that after you install patch #4, the game itself will work with either older rosters or the newer (i.e. patched) rosters. Also, you can open a .mbe file with either version of MVPEdit. The version of MVPEdit that you are using will determine which format will be used when the rosters are exported. The TC releases contained the older format rosters, but we always include the .mbe files with the installation in case anyone ever wants to edit the rosters. As I recall, some people had problems with patch #4 and the new roster file format, so that is why I never went past patch #2. Patch #3 was just a newer set of rosters and didn't fix any problems or add any functionality.
Jim825
I don't think that would work. Not sure though. I agree. In order to go back to patch #2, you probably have to uninstall the game, reinstall it and then install patch #2.
emath2432
I never installed any of them. What kind of things do they fix? All I have issues with is random crashing as the stadiums (mods, not originals) load... So I figure that is most likely my PCs lack of resources. I don't remember all of the details, but I remember that patch #2 had a fix that got rid of some choppiness in the game. If you search the forums, you can probably find details of the patches.
