am i only the one that actually thinks this a BAD thing?

for one, i think it's going to take away people's efforts in making new mods for MVP.

sure MVP 05's graphics are starting to look dated (heck, i still play Bases Loaded for NES!)

but they had the art of baseball down to a science in that game and that's why i still play,

not to mention the fact that nearly everything in the game can be customized!

i had 2K8 for PS3 and i played a season. i'm surprised i finished it because i think the

gameplay is just flat out bad. i can't even believe the same guy who was behind MVP

had anything to do with the 2K series. enough with the fancy swing stick and all that

crap. the buttons on a ps3 controller are shaped like a baseball diamond! what else can

you ask for!? no need to make things more complicated than they should be.

as far as new games are concerned, the only game that comes close but a distant second

to MVP is the MLB The Show series. i'll be purchasing that when it comes out, only because

i'd like a next gen with half decent gameplay. but MVP is the king. it's too bad they lost the

MLB rights. they were really on to something good there. and one more thing, joe morgan and

jon miller are just flat out annoying know it alls. the only person who would be worse in a game

is tim mccarver. i like the 3 man announcing crew in The Show.

This is a good point. Mods have been few and far between over the last year. Spungo put out a fantastic uniform set again and a 2009 schedule has appeared, but that has been it recently.

I'm tired of fiddling around with MVP. I would like to see what can be done with 2K9. It's something fresh and new and MVP has lost a bit of its luster because we have modded everything.

Time, dedication, appreciation and reception are big issues for me when it coems to modding. I tried building Citi Field, but when my Nationals Ballpark garnered the small amount of downloads it did, I just didn't feel inspired to finish Citi. It’s the same with the Astrodome and all of Sean's amazing TC stadia. If people aren't going to use them, I can't justify the time spent on them. I think 2K9 may be fresh enough to draw a new audience, but modding for it will still take time and effort. I, for one, am not willing to submit at this time right now. We'll see how I feel about that on March 3.

A fresh game is always welcome, there are going to be advances in technology and hopefully game play. I think we've lost a huge chunk of the audience that supported MVP anyways, so moving to the new game makes sense. It’s difficult for the loyalists, but someone has to get left out.

I agree with that.

It's time to move on.

It doesn't mean you leave MVP behind and never look at it again. For instance, it will ALWAYS be relevant for the TC mods, etc.

And MVP09 is coming for it, so it will at least have a shot at competing for attention with MLB 2K9 this year.

But if the 2K series is going to be a regular on the PC, and it keeps improving, and it becomes even nearly as moddable as MVP was - then MVP will not be able to compete as the game of choice for people playing "dynasties" that start at present-day.

Of course - the game came out in 2005 (or was it late 2004?). It's 2009 now. That's a pretty darn good run. :)

But there are still limitations with MVP 05, such as a primarily 2D crowd, fixed weather and time, and the presentation even modded, fails to compare. Not to mention the fact that rosters don't expand to 40 men in September as they should. I suspect 2K9 will be like MVP 2004 was for the PC. Not quite there yet but still enjoyable and next gen and then 2K10 should be able to be like MVP 05 with the fixes and lessons learned from 2K9.

As far as the gameplay, this is a whole new team doing the game so I think they scrapped the previous model...

Just played NBA 2K9, ran pretty smooth on my machine, so I guess MLB2K9 will run as well.

I've got a Phenom 9550 quad core with a Sapphire Toxic Radeon HD 3870 card...

The graphics are going to be something else IMO...

Not to get totally off-topic, but...

Big O, I been researching video cards and that is one I've been looking at. I've been looking at both ATI and Nvidia. How does that bad boy perform?

well, I downloaded the NBA 2k9 demo and it played pretty well. I couldn't adjust all of the settings, but if MLB 2k9 is similar in performance then I should be able to run it pretty smoothly, though I can't max it out.

if it is as moddable as MVP, I would think Classic Total Conversions will start coming to MLB instead of MVP

Yeah good point. Think people would re-do the ones that already exist, or new years would be chosen?

Pretty sweet. I haven't run any tests on it or anything, but it seemed to handle NBA 2K9 with no problems and MVP is super fast obviously. The newer ATI's are probably better though.

Cool man. I been doing some research on various sites and then price checking on newegg.com

That's possible, however, it would be a lot of work. We've got close to 4 years worth of classic stadiums, uniforms, cyberfaces and audios in the TC mods. Having to do all this all over again would be tough, especially if a lot of these are not in MLB, and it might be a hard sell to get modders to redo the work for MVP for MLB.

Even if the graphics in MVP do appear dated, it would take a lot to top the classic stadiums the Pirate, PaulW and Sean have created. To a classic lover like me, they are truly works of art. The same goes for Homer's classic faces as well as the uniforms that have been created by numerous modders.

I for one think your Nationals Park is brilliant and it's a shame that interest in this game seems to be dwindling down. I would have loved to have at least seen New Yankee Stadium and Citi Field done before we call it quits with MVP, but I know how you feel about putting tons of work into something and having only a few people enjoy it. I used to run a website for a semi-popular 90's band and spent countless encoding live videos for people to watch. When I decided to end the site due to lack of support, a few people jumped down my throat and called me a whiner. Oh well.

I won't be getting 2K9 for the PC because my PC simply won't be able to handle the graphics and I'm not upgrading just for a game I have mixed feelings about, but I will continue to follow this site (or a new one) and see what you guys come up with.

Good luck!

I think we are a long way from ever creating new stadiums like Sean, PaulW and myself have done. I know I won't be making any major edits to 2K9 if it is moddable.

Video card with 128 MB or more memory and one of the following chipsets is required: ATI x1300 or better | NVIDIA 6600 or better | DirectX 9.0c compatible card with Shader Model 3.0 support.

Does that mean that only ONE of the above is required? I have NVIDIA 5200, and the NBA game came up as a black screen because of that. Will I be able to use MLB if I meet all the other reqs?

Your card must support Shader Model 3.0

I could be completely wrong, but don't most games run Shaders?

Halo 1 runs Shaders 2.0, Call of Duty World at War runs Shaders 3.0...

I could be wrong, but maybe this game will have great graphics.

However, most of the people probably can't play it.

It would not be worth $100 for a new video card and to buy one game for $20 >_>

How long has this Shader Model 3.0 thing been used in games? I mean, I have no idea if my card supports this.

question here.. does Shader Model 3.0 installed automatically in the video card driver?? or it's included when u install games that support shader??

and one more thing... my PC is below the minimum requirements for MLB2k9 because my processor is only althon 64 1.8ghZ but I play NBA2k9 very well with above average settings. do u think my PC can run MLB2k9 smoothly? by the way my graphic card is nvidia8500Gt 1gb.

thanks guys.. :)
