How Good Would Mvp 05 Be If.....

It was not moddible. I'm sure if it wasn't for the 06,07 & 08 total convertions and all the other great mods here, the game probably would of died out long ago. I was reading through the MLB2K thread and it got we thinking. What if MVP was not moddible? Would it still be one of the best sports games ever made?

It would have been a good game for one year. Much like Madden used to be. I think it would have inevitably been ruined by EA like many of the other games.

It was pretty good. It didn't have any glaring issues. Mods started coming out for it immediately, but it would have easily held for a year.

They fixed issues that the community had complained about in the 2004 iteration, so it was promissing that they listened to us.

How good was the game right out of the box?

Like Pirate said, it was pretty good.

The question I had about this game was what was the first glaring bug that we would find? Keep in mind that this was from EA Sports, a company well known for releasing games when they are not ready. The 04 version had the famous lefty bug. I was half expecting a righty bug for the 05 version. But when I got the game, it was very good. I still regret EA losing their rights to making this game because who knows what they would have had in store for the Mvp 06 version? Maybe 40 man rosters in September or other things that could have been put in.

They still had a lot of work to do to get the hitting right, but other than that, it is pretty solid, and no mods anyone makes can fix the hitting.

It really is too bad they lost the rights to MLB. It's also too bad 3DO had to go under. With High Heats game play driving EA to do better, I really think the next few games would have been the best we every could hope for. Unfortunately, neither thing happened, and we lost both.

I don't mod it because I have it for Gamecube (the only game I have for GC). With such a vast network of editable players in AAA, AA, and A-ball, there's almost no limit to how long I can continue to keep the rosters up to date.

Out of the box, it was great. The only issue now is that 1987 is the latest birth year available, so some of todays' prospects are born after that. Oh well, small problem for a great game I've enjoyed immensely for 4 years now.

I disagree, actually, about the glaring issues thing. It may not have affected all of us, but there were dozens of people on this site who had the terrible lag bug that wasn't fixed until the 3rd patch. Not even people with old computers, people with brand new systems. Fortunately, for most of us there weren't any major problems. I suppose the grass looked really awful compared to '04, which was the first thing I noticed.

Sports games, given that they use rosters which change quickly in the real world, can rarely last for more than a year without modders and roster updates. The exception in my opinion would be if you didn't feel like buying the next year's game in a series, like many people did with Madden because it hasn't added much to its newer versions. But obviously there was no follow-up to MVP 2005.

Since no baseball came out for PC for 4 yrs, I still think MVP could've possibly lasted this long without modding, even though without mods it would be 100x worse
