The magic numbers (+15 and -15)

I have always absolutely loved playing MVP baseball but struggled for a long time with too many homers and not enough runs scored via other types of hits. I was trying to find a way to balance my insatiable quest for the dinger (I press UP a lot when swinging on the gamepad) and realistic results. After much trial and error I've set human power at -15 and human contact at +15. I play at All-Star. It works (for me anyway) like a charm. I've also only hit one 500+ foot homer since this adjustment. Just thought I'd share this.

Hey Paulw nice work, now I was wondering if you could do that with the computers defense, because they make to many diving plays, and it seems like they attack really quick on every ball hit around the field.

Have you checked out Kamasutra's datafile and slider settings?

basballfanatik9 - As far as I can determine, the problem with all the spectacular catches has to do with the way fielding ratings are set up in the game. Fielders are rated on range, arm and fielding accuracy. The higher the fielding accuracy - the more spectacular catches a player makes. Unfortunately, there are a lot of players that don't make many errors but aren't exactly glove wizards. On the other hand, there are some players who make a lot of boots but also have a talent for the occasionaly spectacular play. My solution has been to knock the fielding accuracy levels *genrally* down based on range factor. There are also some that go up. My simple formula is: Fielding = (Range + Fielding) / 2. This seems to have worked for me.

This is a rather complex solution. My advice - unless you like to fiddle with player ratings in MVPedit - is to go with one of the datafies.
