Video Card For Very Old Computer

Recommended Posts

My brother has this really old Sony computer from 2001 which he wants to play games on. Problem is it has an nVidia TNT Riva card. His machine only supports 4x AGP cards, so I've been doing a little searching on Amazon for good deals. I came across this card called the ELSA Gloria II which has 64 MB and uses the nVidia Quadro GPU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MNDTW...1-6&seller= Detailed specs are here: http://hothardware.com/Articles/Elsa-Glori...dro-SDR/?page=1. I am wondering if this will be able to play MVP 05. Also, will it be able to play NHL 07?

Thanks!

Pirate,

I posted this the other day here....I don't have the link right now. But you can find it easily. It is an AGP card Radeon Saphire...This will work in your bros cpu, I have sony from 05...I know his is from 01 but go check it out..It is also HD compatible..SAPHIRE RADEON AGP or RADEON SAPHIRE AGP...Sweetest AGP card out..Ranks #1 and probably one of the last AGP cards made by anybody..

That is just one site..The site I would recommend looking at, is tigerdirect.com that is the site I was reading about it at. And they sell it there too for a pretty reasonable price for AGP HD..I am thinking about buying it myself..GREAT REVIEWS..Like I said, voted BEST AGP CARD OUT..

Go to newegg.com. Computer hardware - video cards - advanced search and filter by AGP Cards and find something that suits you.

Thanks for all the suggestions. However, his computer is really on its last leg, and I only want something to tie him over for the next year or so until he gets a new computer. So, I know this sounds dumb, but I don't really want to spend more than $20 for this thing (that's why I asked about that $0.25 card lol). I actually found this Geforce2 card for $15 on amazon. It should play MVP 05, but does anyone think it'll play NHL 07? http://www.amazon.com/Champion-GeForce2-MX...491&sr=1-11

Well, actually, he's probably going to inherit my computer (which is not a great gaming machine, but it can do it) when I get my new laptop. Or, he'll get his own and I'll make sure it can do gaming. All I really want to do is put a cheap band-aid on his current machine to tie him over until we get him his new one when he goes to college in a few years.

A good site to recommend is www.srtest.com . It gives you the recommended pass, and all that good stuff.

If you can run NHL 07, you should be able to run MVP.

I did the test, and it said the minimum specs should be:

DirectX 9.0c compatible 3D-accelerated 64 MB video card (nVidia GeForce3+ / ATI Radeon 7500+/Intel 915g)

The recommended specs should be:

DirectX 9.0c compatible 3D-accelerated 128 MB video card (nVidia GeForce 6600+ / ATI Radeon 9700+)

Dude, go to this ebay link...

No one is bidding on it, and its $25! WOW! Get it! Thats why I love ebay.

So try to look for one that is recommended.

Make sure the power supply you have can handle a more powerful card. I almost fried my machine upgrading.

Yah, piratesmvp04 - you need to make sure you have enough power supply. This guy is right.

How would I check to see if his power supply can handle the new card?

EDIT: I found on the MSN Shopping website that this card requires a 250 W power supply. So, do I just check to see if his card is 250 watts or more?

Man I remember paying $300 for that exact card lol

piratesmvp, if I can find it, I'll send it to you (do you live in the US?). I'm pretty sure it's still in my old rig shoved away in a closet somewhere, but I'll have to dbl check. I'll look for it tomorrow afternoon and will let you know then.

The issue is what other stuff is on the rig. You can use this site as a wattage consumption / need estimator.

Cool. How much do you want for that? I live in Pennsylvania.

Thanks for the tip. It looks like he needs a power supply around 300 W. I'll check to see if his power supply is that much.

I was busy today so I didn't have time to look for it yet. I will try to check tonight or tomorrow. if I can find it, which I should, I'll contact you via pm. And don't worry about money, i didn't want anything for it. it is just collecting dust anyway.
