Lcd Tv's

I'm looking to buy an LCD HDTV. I've mainly been looking at Sony, Samsung, and LG. Can anyone tell me if LG is any good? I've been looking at the specs (resolution, contrast, hz, etc) and LG has the best specs for the price.

Does anyone have any tips for buying an HDTV?

I own two LG lcd's and they are both excellent. they are the only two hdtv's I've ever had so I can't really comment on the others but in all reality you can't go wrong with LG or samsumg.

mvp or 2k?

What?

I prefer to stay away from Sony based on past experience with HDTV. We had bought a 46" one only for it to not display images after about 7 months. The local representative said it would cost about $1500 (just a tad bit less than what it cost us when we bought it new). Anyway, we ended up buying a 52" Samsung HDTV and we are enjoying every bit of it. One additional feature that Samsung has is the recreational feature. It's a nice touch that you can use when you have guests over.

We went to the local Best Buy and when we were set on a TV, we went online to buy it from Amazon.com. LG I am not too sure about as we really didn't look into it as much.

I don't know what this has to do with HDTV's, but I'll address it anyway. Both, at some point. MVP for now, 2K if/when there's a roster editing option to change stances. I actually would like to be able to play games through the PC on my TV.

I like the picture on the high end Sony's, but I haven't seen a lot of LG. Should I sacrifice specs for the name? We've had a Samsung for about a year and a half, and it broke within the first year, although I'm willing to give them another chance.

Also, what is the recreational feature?

I was wondering if you intended to use the TV for 2k9 or MVP. I don't have 2k9, so I wouldnt know what the graphics would look like with that game.

I have a Viewsonic 42' LCD TV. Extremely nice, got it for $550 refurbished. Works like a charm from e-cost.com

Definitely worth it to get a refurbished tv, because its half the price. Plus it has a nice 1920x1080 resolution. 1080p.

Amazing tv i have.

I just bought a new rose black 40" Samsung LE-A656 a few weeks ago and I'm loving it. Full HD, 4 HDMI inputs, 50,000:1 contrast ratio, 100Hz, 6ms response time, 500cd/m2 brightness. I have it connected to my PC via HDMI @ 1440x900, DVD player at 1080p, DVR via SCART, PS2 via composite, and audio out to my stereo and it's excellent. Brilliant for gaming as well, been playing NBA 2K9 and MLB 2K9 on it and both look great, as well as using it for various forms of video (short movie clips, full movies, baseball games and fights) and I think they actually look better on the TV than they do on my monitor.

You can get more info from this thread on AVForums, the specs are here on Google Docs, reviews from TrustedReviews here (9 out of 10, TR Recommended), HDTVTest here (highly recommended) and WhatHiFi here (5 stars).

I bought it for £719.00, but it's now down to £665 on the same site I bought it from. Slightly painful to read for me, but great for anyone else looking at buying one, and I definitely don't regret buying it, even at the higher price. It originally retailed around £1,300, IIRC.

I used to work for best buy and I can tell you from staring at the damn things daily. if it starts with an "S" you will be ok on brand.

Dont get too caught up in contrast ratio. just because it may be a million to one for example the human eye doesnt pick up much more than 20,000 I believe.

The rule of S is something I've always heard. So far I really like the Sony 40" I looked at, but I still can't get over the specs on that LG. I'll also have to look up the contrast ratio thing.

I have a Vizio which I am very pleased with but I also just purchased a Westinghouse 40" with a built in DVD player from Tiger Direct for my son for $699 ...... excellent price I think and it is priced much higher other places I have visited. Amazon also sells this unit for that price sourced from Tiger Direct. From the reviews I have read it seems to be a fairly nice LCD HDTV.
