Greatest Atlanta Brave Ever

I found a new website the other day called Bracketeers.com. It's a site that allows you set up brackets for just about any subject you want, sports, music, video games, etc. and have people vote on them to decide the winner.

I've set one up to decide the greatest Atlanta Brave ever. It only includes players that played for the Braves since they moved to Atlanta. The seedings were done randomly. Each round lasts a week.

You don't have to register to vote. Here's the link. Hope to see everybody play along.

huh, why is mike stanton a #1 seed... anyway, looks good, i'll try it out

wait, you didn't bother doing the seeding, it seems... I wouldn't say these beginning matchups are actually ideal

The program randomly set the seeds and matchups.

Whats the point of a bracket? There are probably only really 3-4 "REAL" options to who the best player is, not to mention why the heck is Mike Stanton in the discussion at all.

I deem that website as an epic fail.

It was done for fun. You're right, there are a certain few that you could say isn't the "greatest". This was done just to pass the time.

just voted even though i've been a longtime braves hater (mets fan), but they've always been a great organization filled with great players and i think only 3 out of the matchups i chose the person with the lower vote tally.

when a guy like rickey henderson can't even command a 100% vote, a guy like dale murphy isn't just gonna "walk into" the hall of fame. and his mvp's are great awards, but subjective awards aren't really good criteria for election to the HOF. of all the things, the greatest travesty is hank aaron not being in the finals. he broke babe friggin' ruth's all time homerun record. let alone all the hardship he had to endure being black.

Dale Murphy!!!!!! If it wasnt for roids...he'd walk into the hall of fame...back to back mvp awards...who else has done that and wont get in? (minus the juicers)

are you saying he was on steroids or he won't get in because of the numbers of everyone else who is on steroids?....I hope not the first! :o

this is the greatest travesty in the history of the universe

I am okay with Chipper making it to the final four, but not at the expense of Aaron.

Granted, it was all in the random seeding..

I guess, in a perfect world, Chipper, Maddux, and Aaron all make the final 4. The fourth one would be harder for me to pick. Mathews, Cox, Glavin, Spahn, and maybe a couple of others.... Hard for me to pick one.

No i'm saying the bloated numbers that came there after his two mvps from juiced players like the McGuire's and Bonds' made his seem less accomplished...Arron should be above Murphy but i was a huge Murphy fan...and there is no way that do-good mormon was on Roids...lol...nothin against mormon's...like i said im a huge Dale Murphy fan. Oh ya... and the Braves will own the NL east someday again!!!

this is the greatest travesty in the history of the universe

I made this post, "Hank Aaron Facts" at another website a couple of years ago. I don;t think many in THIS generation really understand how great Hank Aaron was.

Hank Aaron is one of the most interesting players in MLB history. To say he is under-appreciated is an understatment. To many of growing up he was the guy that "got the record because he played so long", and was regarded as second-fiddle to Willie Mays. However, Hank was MUCH MORE than and MUCH MORE important than that. Here some Aaron facts (from this week's SI article) ...

1. When Aaron was drafted from the Negro League's at age 19, he hit "cross-handed". In other words he had the wrong hand (right) on top when batting. Aaron is widely regarded as the best 'wrist hitter" (fast, strong wrists) ever, and it's speculated that learning to hit "cross-handed" may have developed this. I think I have mentioned this previuosly. It's just one of those strange things that is actually true.

2. Aaron, when drafted in 1953 possibly faced even harsher treatement than Jackie Robinson did in 1942. When Robinson broke into MLB, the furthest south any of the teams played was St. Louis and Cinncinnatti. Aaron played in the minor leagues in the heart of dixie, and was escorted out of the stadium each night by a teammate carrying a bat.

3. When Aaron hit homer #711 (approaching Ruth's record of 714), there were 1,362 in the stands. Amazing.

4. Not one of Aaron's single-season HR total is in the top 68 of all-time numbers, yet he is the current all-time leader.

5. Not one of Aaron's single-season RBI totals is in the top 100 seasons all-time, yet he is the current all-time leader in RBIs.

6. His best season for extra-base hits is not in the top 40 seasons all-time, yet he is the current leader of extra base hits for a career.

7. Aaron has the all-time record for total bases (1 base for a single, 2 for a double, 3 for a triple, 4 for a homer), and considers this record his greatest stat ... showing that he was a complete player. Aaron compares himself to Stan Musial, not Babe Ruth.

8. If you take away ALL of Aaron's 755 home runs he STILL has 3,000 hits. (That, friends, is simply amazing)

9. Pick any star currently playing (including Bonds) and GIVE him 180 home runs, and Aaron STILL has more total bases. Staggering.

Aaron impresses me with his high character and integrity. The article rightly points out (IMO) that it will take Bonds breaking of Aaron's record (using steroids ... see other threads in this forum) for the baseball public to realize just how much it took for Aaron to hit 755, and how great of player (not just HR hitter) he was. Bonds will get the numerical record, and in a strange twist of fate, Aaron will be regarded as the "people's champ". Strange since Aaron was despised by many for years for replacing beloved Babe Ruth as the greatest HR hitter ever.
