danc
I just purchased 2k9. I want to play the game with AI defense and partial AI base running. I still want to use manual pitching and batting controls. This is similar to a true AI (sim) baseball game games like mvp2k5. Is this possible in 2k9? I am having trouble figuring out how to do this. Maybe I just have not played around with the game enough. Can anybody help me with how to navigate to those options? Thanks.
Maestro23
There is no assisted fielding or baserunning. They are manually controlled by the user. If you decide to stick with the game, I suggest you use the Practice Modes for Hitting, Fielding, Pitching, & Baserunning. They are found under Game Modes. However it's not an option for MLB 2K9. that is the bad news. The good news is the CPU somewhat auto fields. any ground ball the CPU handles itself and you just need to throw. however on fly balls the CPU doesn't really take off after it by itself all that well, and you do have to take over running. The nice part is if you get close to the landing circle the computer seems to suck your guy to the right spot to make the catch. This saved the game for me. It is tricky fielding but you get used to it in about 3 games. Running is actually quite easy using the right thumb stick of your controller, or the shoulder keys of your controller. As with fielding it took me about 3 games to get the hang of it and i noticed that when you advance all it will use a little bit of intelligence to make sure you dont advance a guy that isn't close to a base to go to another one. example... Runners on 1st and 2nd. I hit a texas leaguer to right that will drop in, and I hit the advance all button. my baserunners that started on 1st and 2nd will now round 2nd and 3rd to score and get to 3rd. However it wont send my batter to second. I have also noticed a couple of times my baserunner will take 3rd by himself before I get to sending him. (again runner on 1st bloop to right) So it isn't perfect (to be honest I'd rather be playing manage only in game) but with some practice you will get the hang of it. danc
Thanks for the kind replies. I was afraid of this from a console game port. Simulation just isn't part of the programming anymore. It really is a shame. BTW, jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj - mind your own business a quit being so self righteous. I am so tired of this comment on this site. Am I hurting you in some way? Am I hurting you in some way? I really don't think that jjjjuniorbr said anything out of line. Every question you asked in your first post has already been covered. Since this game came out over a month ago, 2k9 has been analyzed and critiqued daily in here. And you have been here long enough to know how to search the forums for an answer.
