Switching An Mlb Team's Division

I am aware that in the MVP Baseball/Data/Database folder there are certain settings or numbers in the team.dat file that can be changed to move a team from one division to another. I'm interested in switching the divisons of a few MLB teams and was wondering what specific numbers need to be changed to make this happen?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

all those data files are laid out exactly the same. just open them with notepad and look at the first line. it's the key. it will tell you exactly where each figure is. if you open the team.dat, i think you will see that division is the 5th figure. that's off the top of my head, so don't quote me, just look. it will take some time getting used to reading it.

Thanks Homer. I'll take a look when I get home later. Just to clarify though, assuming Ive identified the numbers representing each division, all I have to do is simply switch the numbers of the two teams in question? Is it only one number or does that number need to be changed in other parts of the text as well?

i believe so, but i don't remember for sure. let's wait for jim or someone else to chime in on that one. i'd say just try and see if it works. but makes sure to back up those files first.

What Homer stated is correct. To change a team's division, you edit field 4 (team_division) in team.dat. If you are moving a minor league team to the majors, you will also need to change field 5 (team_league) to either 0 (American League) or 1 (National League).

If you want to reduce the number of teams in the major leagues, like I did in TC1978 (only 26 teams) or TC1951 and TC1956 (only 16 teams), you would also need to edit the org.dat file and change field 5 (org_is_franchise) from a 1 to a 0 for those team that you do not want to show up in the major leagues.

if i'm following this right it just changes the a team from its assocated into another teams spot while you move that team to the team you move spot, but leaves the rest of the org in tact. it would move the say the reds and its uniforms, and park into say the mets while you moved the mets into the reds spot. or what would be left behind.

These changes ONLY affect the rosters. They have no effect on uniforms, stadiums etc. If you move the Reds to the AL West, they do not replace a team already in the division. It simply adds another team to the AL West and removes the team from the NL Central. The Reds will still have their same uniforms and they will still play in Great American Ballpark.

This change also has no effect on the team's minor league organization. Everything is still the same and they are still in the league that they are currently in. If you want to change a minor league team's league or division, you would need to make the same type of change that you made to the major league team.

If you did want to change the Reds uniforms, you would have to replace their current uniforms in the models.big file. If you want the Reds to play in a different stadium, you would have to overwrite the GABP stadium files with the stadium that you want them to play in (using the same names). For example, in the TC1978 mod, I took the Riverfront Stadium files and named one of them gabpday.big (daytime file) and the other one (gabpnite.big). The game is programmed to have the Reds use these stadiums, and there is no way to change that. That's why you simply rename the files you want to use.

You would then have to change the stadium name text in the FEENG.LOC and IGENG.LOC file to the proper stadium name using LOCLook.

Finally, you would need to modify the stadium name audio file so that the proper stadium name was announced.

Whew!!!

I know that this was a longwinded answer to your question, but I wanted to make sure that it was absolutely clear that the changes that Homer and I talked about are ONLY roster changes.

you know, a tool to easily move teams is one of those things mvp was always missing. because in this case, it's a matter of swapping, and i'm sure a utility could be made.

one other thought. if i remember right, there is also another limitation, you half to have three div at the major league for each leauge, is other others number you have in one divison. if it not right tell me, and i thought somehow there was program to do this, but i recall if i saw it for real or not.

You're correct, you do have to have three divisions at the major league level and you have to have at least two teams in each division.
