SESbb30
Ok, does anybody know if its possible for me to put my hard drive back into one peice? what i mean is, its split into two parts, and one is for "backup", i dont need this anymore as i bought a portable HD to keep my backup on there. Im running low on space on the main drive on my pc, and i want to combine the two parts into one. Or is this even possible?
Homer
you mean it's partitioned?

Homer
well if you right click My Computer, and select Manage, under Disk Management you can delete the partitions. however, since it's on your main drive, i don't know if you can do it properly without erasing everything. i just did this recently with a second drive, but not my primary. SESbb30
would it erase everything on my HD or just the backup part, becuase i dont need anything on the backup part, but everything on the other.
stevieaces
I use this for managing my partitions. Free and simple. http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-....html?tag=mncol
SESbb30
when i click to delete the backup part it, it says, "All data on this volume will be lost, do you wish to continue?". just to make sure, this will delete only the part i want gone. stevieaces
Are you using the program in the link or Windows Disk Management like Homer mentioned?
SESbb30
disk management.
Homer
before you do anything, just wait until one of the more technical guys chime in again. it will delete only the partition you select, but combining it to your other partition is another story. EDIT: yeah, listen to steve, he knows what he's talking about more than i do.
SESbb30
uh, yeah. i want to combine them it sounds like. My HD went from 300 gigs, to one with 100 (main) and the other 200 (backup).
Homer
well then i'm pretty sure you're gonna need another utility for that. disk management will let you delete all partitions. but you need to delete all of them in order to "unpartition" them. at least from my experience with it. in which case, you data will be lost. check out his link first and see if that program can unpartition a drive. stevieaces
Just download that program in the link and you will be set. After you install it, a couple of right clicks and a reboot should do the trick You don't have a dual boot setup or anything like that on the Hard Drive do ya? SESbb30
got the program on my computer. no dual boot.
stevieaces
Find the partition you want to remove and choose delete, then you have to hit the apply tab to make the changes. After you do that, click on what should be the only partition you have, and choose resize and then hit apply. It should make you reboot, after that you should have all your HD space back. SESbb30
ok, now what? do i resize it til there's nothing, then resize the other?
SESbb30
will i loose any data?
stevieaces
If you didnt backup the stuff you wanted on the partition that was used for backup, you will lose that. You wont lose any data on your windows partition since you are just resizing it.
