mcoll
i am i it, and yes he should have told you, but a lot people now seperate folders like from the os for the reason of if the os goes and you half to redo it, the stuff isnt lost. he should have told you, or created a disks or something else for the reason you just gave. i'd complain. its a little unsueal for a shop themselves to do that, or at least if they thought they might need to, asked if you if you wanted them to do it, or where you wanted them stored to. as long you dont do anything else to that partition. i mean anything, there ia a possibly the material is still there. its a long and hard issue, but it still could be there, bdepending on how it was formatted and what been written. don't do anythig further and have someome with recovery lodge see if there any chance its still there. mcoll
all im saying dont do anything more, there is a slight possibly the stuff is still there. you need to not do anything and have some who filimar with recovery software and know the right program see if the data still there if that important to you. format makes dats not seeable, but its not until files are written over there actually turely gone. it depends the format and what been done to the area of the disk its on to know if its still there. writing files or anything like it does make them gone. depending on the format matter, they may still be there, just not reaable in the normal matter. it someone who knows data recovery software, or in that area of computer and see waht they say. Homer
that's great! lesson be learned to look at what you're deleting first, and to make sure you back up everything before you do also. by the way, what did you do to get it back?

mcoll
glad it worked out. that why we were saying don't do anything but run the program, because odds were the stuff was there, unless you had started writing and saving stuff over it. the problem is people don't know that formatting isant exactly making data disaaper forever. there are some variables involved in if gone or not. formatting and installing an os os will make it gone uselessly, or if you use a gov grade eraser program, it gone. the key is depending on what time eraser program or formatting is used and as soon as you realize a problem don't do anything but run a recovery program as quickly as possible to give you your best chance to it back.
