Almost Got Everything Solved....

Hey everyone,

For anyone who has used the XBOX PX controller for MVP 2005, take a look at this and see if you have experienced anything similar. I'm thinking I might need to delete my .cfg file and start all over, but want to make sure there's no other explanation first.

I bought a XBOX 360 controller for PC and have been trying to configure all the controls to be similar to the original MVP 2005 PS and Xbox consoles controls. I've went through and changed as many as I could, but I there are still some problems.

1. No rumble, the option isn't even highlighted in the game menu.

2. "Pitch 3" should be button "x", and I've changed it to that, but everytime I hit it, it goes to the menu screen instead of pitching the ball, so I had to assign "start" as the button for this pitch, which is sucky

3. When I'm fielding a ball in the outfield and am using the left joystick, and I hit "down" on the joystick, it pauses the game.

4. I can't find where pick-offs are located and thus, can't do them.

5. There are more problems that are similar, but if you've experienced any of these, you don't need to hear the rest.

The list kind of goes on and on from there...

I was wondering if you knew of a d/l I need to get to fix this problem, or if you have another suggestion? I've seen some d/l's on eamods.com, but the links are broken as they were made back in 2005 and the .ftp aren't available any more.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

-Scott

here is my controller setup...to pick off hold LB and use the corresponding XYBA. There is no rumble feature with MVP. I think I can do everything except intentionally walk...but you can just pitchout four times for that.

Cool... that looks like what I need.

My next question is where that file is located so I can just copy/paste the info you just gave me.?

I've been looking through all my MVP files and can't find the controller set-up file anywhere.

Do you or anyone else know where this file is located (default installation) or what it's named so I can more easily identify it?

Perhaps this can only be manipulated from within the game.... but I doubt it.

Thanks,

-Scott

Thanks, I found it. I had been looking frantically in the Program files with no luck.

I was able to locate what I need to change now I just have one last question regarding saving the new .cfg file.

Because I opened it in excel, saving it back to .cfg isn't possible. I don't know if context free grammer and excel formats are the same thing, but would it hurt to change the file format to .xls would ruin the compatibility with the game.

I just want to make sure that before I save the new changes to my "controller" file into .xls, whether or not it will ruin the compatibility?

Also, if I need to save it in .cfg, can you recommend a program to open it with? (I have windows vista)

Thanks,

-Scott

I think I got it altered correctly, but I'm not sure.

Is there anybody out there who can e-mail me a copy of their controller.cfg file? I need to know exactly what path to assign it to as well, if you don't mind.

A little info about my set-up:

MVP 2005

Vista

08 Total Conversion Mod

KG's 09 Roster/schedule

XBOX 360 PC Controller

I don't know what the heck I've done wrong but my main problem is that when I hit button 3 while I'm pitching, the roster menu comes up (the one where you can browse through your/opponents rosters/fielding placement/bullpen/etc).

I tried a copy and paste of ARod's button thing above, with no luck. I don't know what the heck I'm doing wrong.

Thanks,

Scott

Hey bro, make sure in the controller.cfg file that the first 2 lines of the file is what your rig recognizes as your controller

example:

profile= Controller_(XBOX_360_For_Windows)

device= Controller_(XBOX_360_For_Windows)

you can find that in Start / Control Panel / Game Controllers

Jim,

I think I just figured out the problem. I've been sitting here all day (at work, not working) trying to figure this thing out.

I just played an inning with the new fix and I think it's been solved... There may be more kinks as I keep playing but I just wanted to post this so that nobody else has to go through the hell I just did (probably self imposed).

It seems as though the the problem was with the number of "axis".

Originally the game (MVP 2005) picked up the fact that I had a XBOX 360 PC controller and it was identified in the "Load Controller Profile" screen under the "My MVP" screen. Since I saw that it recognized the name (XBOX...), I thought nothing needed to be done. Unfortunately some of the buttons seemed to have been overlaped with others or something, so I was getting to screens I didn't want to when I pressed a button (read my posts above)

Here's what I finally ended up doing (all the time crossing my fingers I didn't mess it up for good).

I went to the "Load Controller Profile" screen and chose a "generic 10 - 4 - 1", instead of the XBOX "10 - 5 - 1". Then went back and changed the buttons to what I wanted them to be (they were of course all scrambled around). This seems to have fixed the problem. I can now use the corresponding button/pitch instead of what I had resorted to (using "start" as my "pitch 3"). It seems to be working great now.... again, I only played a couple innings but everything is working great.

I hope nobody else has to go through this like I did... but if so, let me know. I exhausted all other avenues first, so unfortunately (as is typically the case), it was the last thing I tried.

Thanks again everyone who tried to help... I ended up learning a lot either way :)

One last thing here... I plan on making a contribution this Friday (pay day). I really do honestly appreciate everyone trying to help.

Thanks,

You know, if you develop problems with this X-Box controller in the future (and I am not saying you will) you may want to try out some of the better controllers for this game. I use a Saitek P880 and never have had a problem with it and others have used Logitech controllers.

I spent way to much time trying to figure out the xbox 360 config myself. It ended up being a very easy fix. I deleted the controller.cfg file in My Computer / Your Documents / EA Mods MVP 08 ...and then I went into the game and into "Controller Config" via My MVP / My MVP Options / Controller Config. I created a new controller.cfg file by assigning and saving any button (just 1 will do) for the Xbox controller to a new action. This controller.cfg will now recognize the Xbox 360 name that your computer uses. (even though its the same controller, your computer may not name it the same exact way as someone else's computer might)...

profile= Controller_(XBOX_360_For_Windows)

device= Controller_(XBOX_360_For_Windows)

...now all you have to do is copy and paste beginning with the first line of the Xbox configuration after the profile and device lines all the way to the last line of the Xbox configuration for whatever xbox controller config you want to use. Either delete or go right over the top of everything except for the profile and device lines of your controller.cfg file that you just made in the game.

You can read and edit the controller.cfg by opening it with Notepad. There are a lot of Xbox controller configs in many different threads. Take your pick. Any of them should work as long as your "profile" and "device" are recognized by your computer.

There may be a quicker or better way, but everything works perfect now with no problems.

Here is my controller.cfg just in case you want to give it a go, good luck!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

IT WORKED... IT FINALLY WORKED!!!!!!

Geezus... I hope I never have to go through that again.

Your step by step process REALLY helped me out. I did it wrong about 4 times with your method... but finally got it.

The trick being to save the profile... then quit the game.. then go back in.

I'm so happy.

Thanks again.
