Dalebopp
Ok, I've been doing a little investigating into sliders. Seems like most people are 100% behind the use of them. I have been playing mvp 08 (kg's 09) for a little while and am about 2 weeks into the season. I play on MVP level, with most of the fielding aids/hitting aids (hitters eye, etc.) I've got a losing record, but still am winning a game here and there. I'm a big proponent of making the game as realistic as possible, meaning I try and make everything as hard as possible, without making it unreal and overly difficult. Ok, so my question is..... Is the level that I'm currently playing MVP 08 on (no slider downloads, MVP level) considered too easy or too hard? I've been trying to figure out what I need to do to get level with everyone else around here. Anyone have any insight into my question? Also, could someone provide me a link with the top of the line slider package? Thanks, -Scott
redsox
How realistic are your scores? I am like you in that I am more concerned about realism and gameplay rather than the graphics or any other such features. I am constantly tweaking the sliders to provide me with that satisfaction. For example, I have tweaked my sliders in such a way that the CPU throws more balls and I am end up throwing more balls. My pitch counts and the walks (issued and taken) have always been realistic. I throw on average about 120-150 pitches per game and the CPU throws anywhere from 130-160. I have also combined my sliders with a custom datafile that definitely adds to the realism. Yankee4Life
Yeah, but from 130-160 pitches by the CPU is a little bit too much, wouldn't you say? Even the number of pitches that you throw is way up there.

I think on average you would see at least 250+ pitches thrown in a MLB game - unless of course you have Greg Maddux pitching in those games. My scores usually end up somewhat normal. The opposition can sometimes run away on hitting streaks at times, but I've kinda chalked it up to me being the Oakland A's... they're not entirely great (life-long A's fan, won't say they suck). My scores (hit totals) and everything seem to be right on. My pitchers get tired early I didn't know if there was one set of sliders to D/L that was like the rosetta stone of MVP 08 or something? I just want to be playing at par with the rest of the mvp community.... not sure if everyone is congruent or not. Thanks for any input! -Scott

Again, I don't know how much of it can be chalked up to the A's not having a great staff and all. It actually has made winning a game... a feat in itself. I'm on the edge of my seat a lot more when there's a guy on base or something. Although... when the other team starts to go on TEARS!!, it makes it a little frustrating and I must say... I've sim'ed a couple games after the 6th inning, goes against every moral fiber I have in my body to do so; but I have done it out of shear frustration. -Scott
redsox
There is an official sliders thread that you can start with to find yourself a base set. But you will always end up tweaking it often (at least in the beginning) to get the most realistic results. I have been playing this game since mid-2005, and I still find myself tweaking the sliders once in a while (though just minor changes). A good datafile also goes a long way in adding to the realism of the game. I have always liked Jim's combo datafile. Every time he has a newer version out, I use that as a base to update mine. JoeRudi26
I just want to be playing at par with the rest of the mvp community Scott - There really is no 'certain slider set' that the community revolves around. Ironically, it's just the opposite. The different difficulty levels (Pro/MVP/All-Star) and the flexibility of the sliders/datafile in general can make for a very different game depending on how you use these options, resulting in very different slider and datafile sets. That said, it really depends on the way you play. In other words, everyone's skill level is different. What works for one person can be totally off kilter for another. Research, tweak sliders and datafile options throughout the site, you'll be amazed at all the different options. That's really the beauty of MVP, it can be 'molded' to fit your playing style where you can consistently get the results that you are comfortable with. angryrat
I just had one of those "simming" moments last night in The Show. I was losing 25-1 and couldn't take it anymore so I simmed the remaining 5 innings.
