bob44
The Dodgers have now finished the month of June with a great record of 17-9. This is a nice improvement to their 13-10 record of April and 16-13 of May. Although they did finish off June kinda rough losing 4 outta 6. Here's a look at the NL West race and the Dodgers scores from June..... NL WEST JUNE 2009

bob44
Don't feel bad bob, Colorado demolishes anything I throw at them. I dread even playing them. I just realized I'm 0-5 against the Rockies in LA! They swept the Dodgers at home in April. BUT I'm 5-1 against them in Colorado, so for the season LA is 5-6. They are tough and getting closer in the standings.
bob44
Very good day for the Dodgers. They avoid the sweep, finally win a game at home against Colorado (1-5) and extend their lead in the West to 5 1/2 games. Clayton Kershaw was amazing today. He starts the game with 6 perfect innings! He then gives up a solo homer to Ryan Spilborghs in the 7th, but gets through the next two innings. Finally he hands the ball off to big Jon for the 9th. Game over! bob44
The Dodgers bats wake up tonight! Andre Ethier hits a 2-run homer in the 1st, a double in 3rd, a single in the 5th and then a stand-up triple in the 7th for the CYCLE !! Casey Blake had a big game too, going 3 for 4 with an rbi single, a double and a 2-run homer!

bob44
Good win, bob, looks like the Rockies took that thin air with them. This was a fun game. I'm not sure if I've ever hit for the cycle, maybe....but it was probably a long time ago?
bob44
Dodgers get a fantastic start from Chad Billingsley. He pitches the complete game shutout, giving up only 8 hits and striking out 3. He also helps himself at the plate with a 2-rbi single in the 4th. We are now halfway through the season....81 games played - 81 games to go! Dodgers are an impressive 49-32, the 3rd best record in the majors, behind the Astros (51-30) & Phillies (49-31).

bob44
Hiroki Kuroda who entered today's game at an impressive (9-2 w/ 2.07 era) struggled badly early in the match-up. The bottom of the 2nd was ugly, as Chase Headley leads off with a solo shot. Following that is 3 straight singles! After a fielders choice that scores one more, David Eckstein hits a 2-out, 3-run homer to put San Diego up 6-0. Kuroda ends up staying in the game and pitches 4 scoreless innings following the horrible 2nd. Dodgers chip away at the lead and get as close as 6-5 in the 7th. LA loads the bases with only 1 out for Manny and he strikes out swinging! Then Ethier comes up and grounds softly to 1st for the final out. Heath Bell saves the game 1-2-3 in the 9th. Padres avoid the sweep. James Loney makes an impressive bare handed pick-up & toss to Belisario saving the infield single in the 8th!

bob44
The Dodgers turn a close match-up into a blow out tonight! LA jumps out to an early 3-0 lead, but Randy Wolf fails to hold it. Up 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th he surrenders a 2-run shot to Carlos Delgado that puts the Mets up 4-3. The blue crew fight right back in the 7th with a 2 out, 2-run triple by Matt Kemp to go back on top 5-4! LA adds a lot of insurance runs (3) in the top of the 8th. With a comfortable 4 run lead in the 9th, Joe Torre sends out good 'ol Jeff Weaver to close the game out. He takes care of business easily 1-2-3! Gary Sheffield pulls the Mets to within 1 @ 3-2 in the bottom of the 4th, with this solo blast over a leaping Andre Ethier! Matt Kemp strokes a triple into the right / center field alley in the 7th to put LA up 5-4!

bob44
Layin' the smackdown, bob. Can't remember when I've had 17 hits in a game. The start of the year my offense was horrible, its so much better now. I get these 15+ hit games here & there, but I also have been giving a few of these up lately too. JoeRudi26
I had 15 hits last night against the Angels, and still lost by a run. I probably average 8-11 hits per game.
bob44
Dodgers win a back & forth battle tonight! LA for the second night in a row blows a 3 run lead, but ends up coming back to win. Clayton Kershaw pitched well, he left the game up 4-3. In the 7th youngster Brent Leach has another rough outing, giving up a 2-run homer & the lead to Jose Reyes. Lucky for him the Dodgers come out in the eight with 5 straight hits (4 singles, 1 double) to score 2 and regain the lead now 6-5! They rough up J.J. Putz pretty bad, just as they did in the first game of the series. Broxton shuts down the 9th quickly with 2 K's for his MLB leading 29th save of the season. James Loney bloops a single into left field that scores Manny from 2nd base in the 7th for the go ahead run! Gary Sheffield strikes out looking at a Jonathan Broxton fastball for the 1st out in the 9th!
bob44
I'm thinking if the Mets want to avoid the sweep, they might want to give J.J. Putz the night off for game #3.
bob44
Well the Dodgers came into today's game planning on sweeping the Mets. Not even close, LA doesn't show up until the 9th, when they make a small rally, but fall way short. To sum up today's game, the Mets hit home runs and the Dodgers didn't hit anything. Also, looks like Brent Leach bought a ticket back to the minors after another poor performance. Carlos Delgado homers off of Eric Stults in the 2nd inning. This is the 1st of 3 long balls today for NY. Manny Ramirez makes a fantastic diving catch in left field! Russell Martin applies the tag at home after a great throw from center fielder Matt Kemp for the final out of the 5th!
