rookie_rick
Well i am impressed. Keeping them to 3 runs is great, i wish i could score more than 3 runs. Is there any potential right handers in your AAA team to call up to sit on the bench and come against lefties?

Is there any potential right handers in your AAA team to call up to sit on the bench and come against lefties? I called up catcher (Bats/R) Curtis Thigpen and aquired the right handed hitting (OF) Scott Hairston from San Diego. I'm going to start shuffling personnel to see who's going to produce. At this point, there's really nothing to lose anyway.
CircleChange11
-------------------------------------------------------------------- To put it in perspective, here's how Boston stacks up in the Majors: Batting Average: .286 (1st) Slg Pct: .470 (1st) Home Runs: 114 (1st) Walks: 310 (1st) OBP: .376 (1st) OPS: .845 (1st) Hits: 776 (2nd) Runs: 414 (2nd) RBI's: 383 (3rd) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Boston pitching (3.96 ERA) is about the middle of the pack from top to bottom. So as you can see, I knew I had accomplished something by keeping their offense tamed, but failed to do anything with the bats. Not sure if my pitching can hold up like it did in game 1, so all I can do is continue to battle. That's exactly what I was thinking. You've got the "better pitcher" going, but the pitching 'edge' still goes to Boston because Penny gets to face the A's hitters and Cahill has to the face the BoSox monsters. I also like that you blame the hitters for not making good contact. That's classic. I feel the same way with Justin Upton. It CAN'T be anything I'm doing wrong. I will say that your sliders are challenging, yet realism based. It's hard to get consistently good offense because the risk of going for the long ball is so great (margin of error is small). I'm finding I can't get 3 or 4 guys "hot" at the same time. Each game, I have one or two guys that do great, but then the rest of the team takes the night off. After 15 games, I almost have every starter above the Mendoza line. WooHoo. With your set up, there's a big risk for going for a "big fly" with 2 guys on and 2 outs. Sometimes you get it ... and win. Most other times you don't and the rally ends with a pop up or routine fly out.

rolliefingers08
Love this dynasty. Wish I still had the time to spend on posting recaps and such because I miss it, and this one would inspire me to improve to your style for sure. Go A's
JoeRudi26
I also like that you blame the hitters for not making good contact. Of course, that's the entire fantasy aspect of running a dynasty, it's all about "the players and the team". But in the same sense, I didn't take credit for my right-handed hitters (Holliday and Garciaparra) drilling it over the Green Monster either. That said, I'm glad you brought this up. Most of the dynasties I have seen dwell in a fantasy concept, i.e., making ficticious trades to amend shortfalls during the season, injuries, and or fanstasy drafts, and so on. So much that by the time the season is 2 weeks old, all the teams in the league are essentially a "mix and match" product compared to the real life baseball. Nothing at all wrong with that, I have just never done it like that, but to be honest I have thought about it for a couple of years now. I have something in mind (player/team/storyline) that has sort of been eating at me that I think will be a good read and fun to follow for a baseball community somewhere on this planet. It is sort of a Road To The Show Concept, only much deeper with a personal backstory of a young player that has endured a troubled life, but is blessed with undeniable big league potential that has every team in the Majors salivating. Lots of twists and turns in both the personal and baseball aspects of the season, told from both the sides of the player, the player's friends and families, and the wolves (MLB Teams) that will stop at nothing to line their pockets with his talents, no matter how much his true character surfaces before and throughout his career. I have run 4 miles a day for the last year and a half, and this seems to be "the place" where I have been sort of "putting it all together", if you will. I like to think I have a pretty decent imagination, and along with a desire to play and present a season during the summer months, the desire to do this has gotten to the point where I may actually start writing it down. The way I see it is, if you're going to present something true to life, then do it with diligence. If you're going to present something ficticious, there are absolutely no limits. Of course, it would help to have a good, solid next gen PC baseball game from which to build the foundation, but at this point, I think we're all pretty much in the dark about that. So much that by the time the season is 2 weeks old, all the teams in the league are essentially a "mix and match" product compared to the real life baseball. Most of the dynasties I see, generally at 2k9 forums and the like, there are 4-6 trades in the first month of the season, where the 'owner' acquires talented players they like in trade for crappy players they don't like. I don't get that, but I understand the age difference between them and me, and at their age I would have been a "chronic trader" as well. Every since Tony2 & BBPro98, I have always made ficitional teams, and used a fantasy draft, as to have something seperate from MLB. I did the same with MVP with my KC Crusaders franchise, and I played one season and started the 2nd, but I found myself missing the MLB teams, unis, etc. My most enjoyable franchise was the "Washington Nationals: Expansion Mode" one that I did on 2k7. I played it all the way to 132 gamed before my 360 died. It was a lot of work, but enjoyable. http://www.2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129928 Nothing at all wrong with that, I have just never done it like that, but to be honest I have thought about it for a couple of years now. I have something in mind (player/team/storyline) that has sort of been eating at me that I think will be a good read and fun to follow for a baseball community somewhere on this planet. I have toyed with a "D-Train: Back on Track" franchise, where I only play Dontrelle's games when he pitches, and try to get him back to his previous level ... perhaps even starting in 3A. I'm keeping that idea on the burner for when I catch up my DBacks franchise to the current MLB schedule. I've never been a really big D-Train fan because of his horrible mechanics. But, now that he's down and almost out, I'm pulling for him. Poor kid probably never had anyone try and correct his mistakes and just told him to "go out there and pitch", and he's likely never experienced failure until it all went downhill. Sometimes I toy with the idea of Ben Grieve (98 ROY) trying to make a comeback, just as an excuse to play some of the games in the minor leagues. You could name your player Josh Schmamilton. I could go for following a "career mode" type franchise. They key is that the player has to have some type of flaw or weakness, otherwise it gets boring. I have thought about the storyline of Clay Zavada for my Dbacks frnachise, but I refuse to use the situation of his father's death and his comeback to baseball just to make my franchise more interesting (FWIW, he got his 1st loss of the season on Father's Day this year ... as the manager, I don't think I would have had him pitch on that day, not as a rookie anyway). In his case, it's not fictional and would be in bad taste for me to use it like that. 3 years ago I trained for and completed a 1/2 ironman (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run) race, and I know what you mean about time to think ... especially on those long solo 3-4 hour bike rides on the Illinois country roads, surrounded by corn (the "Tour de Farms, as I called it). Sorry for the ramble ... I've got too much time on my hands this time of year, and I always like to talk ball.

JoeRudi26
Man, as bad as it's been, I can't believe how nervous I get if I'm up a few runs in the 9th against a good team. I've been burned too many times lately. I was up 6-2 and they immediately loaded the bases with no one out, and I thought, "you have to be kidding me, not again". They wound up scoring 2 runs before I finally nailed down the 3rd out. I almost broke out the beer. B)

JoeRudi26
Thanks, ALB, I appreciate it. Those are good, but I was hoping for something a little closer, I need to see the texture. Like I said, I've seen them shoot it up close once or twice on TV, but I can't seem to catch it anymore. Thanks anyway, I may be able to do something with those. Were you wanting the metal borders?
