Is the Red Sox line the normal one or are there any different players that have made the team for some reason or another? No, it's pretty much the big boys. Varitek sat in the first game for some reason, but other than that, it's a nerve racking lineup to face. I practically have to place every pitch. I miss once, and they make me pay. Look at the bottom of the Red Sox lineup in Game 1. As you can see, I missed at least 3 times. Game 1 Game
rookie_rick
There are some surprises in the Boston line up. Chris Carter, Jed Lowrie and Rocco Baldelli are doing a superb job. Fancy trading my Jed Lowrie for that Jed Lowrie :p

Fancy trading my Jed Lowrie for that Jed Lowrie I can't keep Chris Carter off the basepaths, and sure, if you're Jed Lowrie is sucking, I'm ready to transplant him for game 3. I have a feeling these guys are going to bust loose later this evening.

I have a feeling these guys are going to bust loose later this evening. My Jed Lowrie is hitting under the Mendoza line in AAA. Despite Chris Carter getting on base 5 times in 8 ABs, the upside is that he hasn't come around to score and so it hasn't hurt you. I think if you want to come away with the win, treat Ortiz like Pujols. Don't pitch to him with runners on. Especially with Bay and Varitek following because it seems like you can deal with them quite easily.
JoeRudi26
Despite Chris Carter getting on base 5 times in 8 ABs, the upside is that he hasn't come around to score and so it hasn't hurt you The fact that Chris Carter has 5 hits in 8 at bats more than likely points back to what I was saying about having to be patient, and place every single pitch. Since Carter is not a major threat like most of that lineup, Ortiz, Bay, Lowell, etc., I've probably subconsciously slacked when facing him, at least at first, and I paid the price by him getting on base almost every time. I'm telling you, one mistake, and these guys will start cleaning the clocks.
rookie_rick
Even if they pounce on any mistakes that you might possibly make, you are facing a pitcher that will give you a chance to get back in to the game.

I remember facing Smoltz a couple of years ago in the Cubs dynasty. I used to pound him pretty good. I'll do the same if I get a chance, no lead is safe with this Boston lineup. Not that that will happen, but I'll take advantage if I can.

Give Smoltz a good beating for me because he was one of the pitchers that beat me in the WS and he has retired in my Dynasty so i don't have the chance to take revenge. JoeRudi26
Take 'em out Joe... "I hate the Redsox" - AKA Yankees Fan haha, I just checked out a couple of old boxscores (from the old dynasty), I found one game where I completley demolished Smoltz for 6 runs in the first and ran him off the hill. I haven't faced him (in MVP) for a couple of years now, but if I see an opening, I'm going take him for all he's worth. My luck, my old pitching shows up and the fat lady gets the mic.

JoeRudi26
Nice win... Thanks, man. I've been over at VSN checking out your dynasty, I have to say it's one of the better one's there, presentation and all. Just curious though, I see you're playing with 2K9 and was wondering how it's working out for you. Seems there's a lot of different reviews so far. Either way, it looks great. VSN seems to be a busy environment.
rookie_rick
Nice job with the win and now use the momentum in the first game against Tampa. How come Gallagher left after only 6 1/3 inning Chris Carter got the better of you for a third straight game. I remember when i had a league leading team ERA, those were the days The only thing i lead the league in is strikeouts. 150+ down to Dice-K

JoeRudi26
How come Gallagher left after only 6 1/3 inning I brought the left-handed Brett Anderson in to face (LHB) Carter in the 7th because he had already burned me 3 times, and at this point I was only up 2-0, and I was trying to avoid them getting anything started. With one out, I figured Anderson could get him to chase something low and away, but he still singled. But as you can see, I wound up striking out the next two batters. I left him in for the next inning so he would face Ortiz, but Baldelli singled and Ortiz put one in the center field stands. I then pulled him and brought in Bailey to face Jason Bay. *sigh* Overall, they never really got it going. I was extremely careful and patient with my pitches, but nothing really different than what I've been doing all along. I have a feeling I caught them at a "lull" so to speak, I can almost gaurente it won't be the same when I face them again.

JoeRudi26
rick - The whole Chris Carter thing is interesting, before this game, I hadn't heard too much about him. I didn't see Ellsbury the entire series, so I went in and checked Boston's roster, and it looks as though he's only played in 21 games this year. He's batting .301 with no homeruns and just a handful (6) of RBI's. My guess is that he was injured sometime during the season (not sure how to check), and at that point Carter got a chance to play, has done extremely well and the CPU recognized it and has kept him in the lineup. Same thing with Drew/Baldelli, I saw Drew once when he pinch hit in game 2, so I checked on him too: Drew: 22 games .224/2/6 Baldelli: 67 games .286/9/44 Drew may or may not have been injured too, or Baldelli has just outplayed him. Who knows.

Who knows. I experience stuff like that in my Dynasty too which is strange because you constantly see threads complaining about the CPU doing stupid things, the CPU in my Dynasty has generally made sound decisions. I just had a great piece of news in regards to the CPU trading. Tampa has almost certainly shot themselves in the foot. They traded Willy Aybar (3B/SS) and Fernando Perez (OF) for John Thompson (SP) and Chris Shelton (1B) Whenever a team has an unusual player in their line up, i always go back and check to see the reason why. I have never had a time when the player didn't deserve the place in the line up over the well known regular.
JoeRudi26
I have never had a time when the player didn't deserve the place in the line up over the well known regular. Same here, even if an opponent's batting order looks way off, I'll go in and start checking numbers. The CPU seems to do a decent job optimizing these things. Of course, some "odd" things we see in the lineups/battings orders are obviously the CPU's inablility to let a player "play through" a slump, etc, and in this instance you'll see players that you wouldn't normally see in real life. If something is so out of whack, there's usually a reason for it.

Don't know why I was thinking 2K9, just saw that the in game graphics were really good, but I happened to be looking more at the layouts and presentation. But hey man, I've basically been copying stuff from ESPN, so in a sense, it's not really "my own". I do have some stuff in the works which I am polishing up and will be presenting later in the season. ESPN has basically been something to "practice" with, and I feel that I've learned a lot. But as you'll see, I take much more pride in my own templates, and what I can do with them is limitless. *Edit - Here are some player cards I made 4 or 5 months months ago when 2K9 came out. Truthfully though, I wasn't too happy with them and since then I've come up with some things that are much better. I'd love to be able to present a dynsty with next gen graphics, but I just can't get away from the fact the MVP is just so damn solid.

JoeRudi26
I actually like making the post game score templates more than anything. Copying them is pretty cool, but making your own is even better. I honestly can't brag though, everything I do is at least based off of something someone else has done, I just branch out with some new ideas.
