I couldn't believe when I heard that Kazmir was traded. I was like "god damn it the rays are only like 4 out of the wildcard".

Good luck against him though. Seeing his stats and how he did last time, he should be tough.

[1] Kazmir's MLB stats from this year indicate he's not "helping the team".

[2] I think he also a free agent at the end of the year, and will demand more than the Rays can pay.

So, it's either let him finish out the year and walk with just some compensation draft pics ... or ... trade him for prospects now.

Seemed weird to trade him to a team that you might face in this year's playoffs.

Wonder if the Mets are going to pay big money for the "one that got away" (Kazmir as a prospect traded for Victor Zambrano).

Thanks, Joey.  I'm a game behind, so I'll be playing yesterday's game today, and today's game tonight.  As I posted earlier, I've faced him once this season and was lucky enough to pull it out.

I doubt if it's going to be a cake walk, it looks like he's pitching lights out.

JR, I have a question. How did you get the "PLAYER TO BE NAMED LATER" into the trade screen? Was it actually in the game or did you just put it in there with Photoshop?

I did it with Photoshop.  It may not mean much, but it would be pretty cool if little things like that were options in the game.

Vlad and Tori Hunter have more HRs than your entire lineup combined lolol, good luck

I know man, pathetic, eh?  I think my sliders are ok as far as hitting homeruns, but the consquences of pushing up on the stick and getting the wrong pitch is too great.

I seem to never have a substantial lead in the game, so I'm better off playing small ball.   B)

I know how you feel, I don't even push up on the L stick in my dynasty unless I'm feeling lucky (which I haven't much). In 5 games I've hit 0 homers :( I know the sliders are fine though because I have another dynasty that I play on to take out my frustration and I hit plenty of homers in that one lol (Let's just say my SS is A-Rod, my 3B is David Wright and my 1B is Pujols to name a few)

That and the pitch speed is really high, so your margin for decision making is very small.

I usually use the stick in certain situations, such as man on 1st 2-outs, any time Mark Reynolds is up, etc (only 1 "up swing" per at bat). Through 52 games, Reynolds has 14, Upton 9, Whitesell 8, Drew 9, and everyone else is pretty much less than 5. More times than not I either foul it off or swing and miss. But, your quality of hitters is less than those guys. Whitesell is "all me", but it makes it easier that RHPs breaking pitches move into a lefty instead of away, such as with a RHB. That's a situation gets me to ground out, when I have stick pushed up and a slider looks like a fastball in, and then I pull a pitch middle-away right to the 3B/SS.

I'm usually "looking in" when I use the stick, and most times I seem to swing and miss on a pitch that is "too far in". I do get quite a few foul HRs (not a bunch, but enough to make it frustrating). I see you did the same in your last game.

Last night I was playing a game against the Braves, and my 8yo son is watching and with Byrnes, I try to tee off on the first pitch to attempt a lead-off HR, he swings and misses and I say "I was trying to go deep on that one", and this dude says "That's what Fukudome did in Gorzelanny's debut, on a 3-2 count .. he hit a lead-offf HR". Now, I have to go look up that game and see if the kid is right or just "full of it". (Later he tells me, "That's cool that McCann is wearing Mizuno's -- Spungos Unis --, because that's what he wears in real life". I'll have to look that one up too.

In a 0-0 game in the 11th inning (Hudson v. Haren), with a runner on 1st, 2-out and Miguel Montero up, I went for it ... and won with a walk-off 2-run HR. In that situation, a HR is basically my only chance.

You're exactly right, CC.  I like the challenge of only having a split second to make a decision, and it's worked out wonderfully in my dynasty.  I average 8-11 hits per game, so I'm right where I should be.  Extra bases, K's, BB's, pitch counts, I couldn't ask for better numbers.  Not perfect, but pretty decent.

I'm convinced that it's the fact that I'm always on my heels.  I can't hold a lead, and if I do have one, it's never safe.  I'll take a few cuts per game, but the gamble never seems to be worth it.  If I could manage to get a 3 or 4 game lead in the division, I'm sure there would be more long balls.

I agree, I have a few "burners" on my squad, and I'm working on ways of making base-stealing not so 'automatic. Because I want it to be the "high risk - high reward" situation that it is in MLB. I'm thinking of playing with the steal delay slider, because even the AI steals successfully with 70 speed guys.

But, batting is definitely right on.

I'm also going to follow some advice I read somewhere with have pitcher's fielding range be a 1,2 or 3, with GG types having a 5. I have had games "ruined" by pitchers fielding like hockey goalies.

I really like the speed of your sliders/datafile, because on defense, you have to decide quick ... as it should be.

At least you knocked Kazmir around a little. :)

That whole Angels team is stacked.  I realize my pitching is weak, but I couldn't contain that lineup no matter what I did.  Vlad, Hunter, Abreu, and even Robb Quinlan.  Like CC said earlier, I can't understand why, or how, they've not completely ran away with this thing.

Either way, I think the personnel I have on the field and for what I've got to work with, the lineups are as solid as it's going to get.  I'm going to go back to the drawing board with this rotation, dig all the way through to single A, and reshuffle for the stretch in September.

It's been a strange season, but as of right now, it's not quite over yet.

Smoke and Mirrors, Jay... Smoke and Mirrors. ^_^

M, forgive me for being "slow", but what exactly do you mean by "smoke and mirrors"?  I know what the term means, but I'm seriously missing it in this context.

lol, sorry   :p

If you make it to the play offs. That might possibly be the worst pitching staff to ever make the post season.

Then again, as long as the wins keep coming it doesn't matter.

I have one of the better pitching line ups in the Majors but yet i have the same record as the Mariners that are bottom of the weak AL West <_<

I have a potential ROY candidate in David Pauley and he leads my team with only 11 wins this late in to the season.
