Maestro23
M, forgive me for being "slow", but what exactly do you mean by "smoke and mirrors"? I know what the term means, but I'm seriously missing it in this context. lol, sorry You're like a magician with this team. "How's he doing that?" On paper, you guys should be at the bottom of the division, yet somehow you are right there at the top. Maybe, "Smoke and Mirrors" is not the phrase I'm looking for. I'll ponder this when I get home tonight and have a few beers. Seriously, I've enjoyed following this dynasty more so than the Cubs dynasty a few years ago. You've had to shuffle, scrape and claw for wins with this team and you've got them right there on the brink of a post-season berth.
puckhogg11
Too bad the A's aren't going to pick someone up via waivers. If the "real life" A's were this close to first they would have to make a move. Anyways good luck with the rest of the season. I have really enjoyed reading your dynasty. I hope you can pull this out and win the West.

I had seen you use that term before a couple of months ago, but I wasn't sure what you meant so I didn't respond. lol, I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you. I've always valued your input. To be quite honest, I could probably just chalk it up to being one of the luckiest teams in MVP history. Especially if I make the playoffs. If I get in, I'm going with the "Ulgy Chick At The Prom" theme. :D
JoeRudi26
If you make it to the play offs. That might possibly be the worst pitching staff to ever make the post season. Then again, as long as the wins keep coming it doesn't matter. I have one of the better pitching line ups in the Majors but yet i have the same record as the Mariners that are bottom of the weak AL West I have a potential ROY candidate in David Pauley and he leads my team with only 11 wins this late in to the season. Thanks for the input, rick. You're exactly right. I can score runs, probably 5 per game, but I canNOT hold a lead. I've got a month left, I'm hanging on by my fingernails. I dreaded having to get rid of Holliday, but when the A's released Giambi it was a blessing. I didn't have to worry about his non production an any level. I'm at the mercy of real life transactions, but again I'd rather have it this way. If I did make my own transactions, it would have been done a lone time ago, and I probably wouldn't be in this situation anyway. Thanks for following. CircleChange11
A's LOOKING TO IMPROVE 1-4 RECORD VS ROYALS, KEEP PACE WITH TEXAS Somebody wake up Coco Crisp and tell him he's not that good. *wink* The Angels next 10 games are all against the Mariners and Royals. I'm sure you see what I'm getting at. You've got the Royals, Mariners, and ChiSox. In Sept you've got 6 games against TEX, 3 more versus LAA. Texas heads out east for Tor and Bal. Tex has 6 games against both the A's and Angels. The Angels and Rangers end September in a 3 game series with each other, and then LAA plays you for 3 games. Those 6 games likely determine the division winner. Texas ends with the Mariners.
JoeRudi26
.231, 1, 4 batting clean up? those crazy Royals When doing the template, I didn't give it much of a look, but you're right, so I had to check it out. Starter (1B) Mike Jacobs (.256/14/46) is injured and will be back in 4 days, and backup 1st basemen Ryan Shealey just isn't producing @ .200/0/0/. Left Fielder Mitch Maier (.216/2/8) is in for the injured David DeJesus (.260/12/58), who is due back in 19 days. Why the PC put Ka'aihue in the cleanup spot is beyond me. rookie_rick
The A's just offered me Jack Cust for Chris Snyder, which i accepted with open arms. I was just wondering how Snyder is doing in your Dynasty and whether you would have accepted the same deal but reversed? So you get Snyder and give up Cust. If no one else (in the division) gets hot, and I play at least .500, I might be able to pull this out. As close as things are right now multiplied by the amount of games left, I virtually have a 1 in 4 chance of making the playoffs. 130 games played in this division and it's been at a standstill for the entire time. I just hope I'm the one the has the last gasp to the finish line.

Chris Snyder (110 games): .248/8/37 Actually, I may have taken that deal. I was platooning catchers Kurt Suzuki and Landon Powell via lefty/righty matchups, with the switch-hitting Powell starting against right-handed pitching. Off the top of my head, Powell was hitting around .280 with a handful of homeruns, and 20+ RBI's. I realize Synder bats right-handed too, but at that point I had to have a backup catcher and my only option was Curtis Thigpen (.111/0/1.), who wound up only playing in 3 games anyway. By a miracle, I've managed to keep Suzuki in the lineup. Even more reason to take the deal you're mentioning with Cust, he's been pretty mediocre all year and in fact got sent down in early July, and being top heavy with left-handed hitting, he was probably the most expendable. To answer your question in a nutshell, I would not have taken the deal straight up, but with the scenario I was faced with, I would have done it. BTW, I get Powell back in 3 days. :yahoo:

JoeRudi26
I guess I have to look at this season as a whole on the bright side of things. I've been operating between 4-6 games under .500, but really have still had a reason to keep trying to win. If this was the A.L. East, I'd have had to play the games just to get the season over with. I don't have much faith in making it this year, but I love the way the game is playing. I tweaked it with a fine toothed comb at the beginning of the season, and as I said, I can't be happier with the results. I could tweak the sliders to my advantage, but that's as bad as starting the game over when I'm losing. Besides, I may have to (once again) rely on MVP for next year's baseball, so luckily I won't have to mess with the sliders again. I still have a chance. Barely. But this team sucks, plain and simple. I know how you feel lol. For example in my dynasty, I just hope I'm within playoff reach the whole season, even if I don't make it. I don't think I could play all of August and September being 20 games back. At the same time though, as long as you're getting a fun, as realistic as possible baseball game, it's all good :good:
JoeRudi26
I know how you feel lol. For example in my dynasty, I just hope I'm within playoff reach the whole season, even if I don't make it. As long as it's early, there is plenty of time to right the ship. I've been playing my seasons this way (real schedule, accurate rosters) since the early High Heat days, or at least whatever I could get a hold of that had the MLB license. My two most memorable seasons to date are probably 2004 (Oakland) and 2007 (Cubs). With the A's in 2004 (sorry, I know I've mentioned this before), I was 14 games back at the All-Star Break and managed to scrap my way back to be able to tie Seattle on the last day of the season, where the tie breaker would have been determined by who had the better matchup record, which happened to be me. I lost the game 4-3. Essentially, it took me 3 months to catch them, but I just ran out of days. I was 9 games back with Chicago (ASB), but got lucky when 1st place Houston went on a major slump the last two months of the season, and I wound up winning the division pretty handidly, and ultimately winning the World Series. First and only time I've won it. My point is, while you still have plenty of time, use it to experiment and work out the kinks in your team for the long run. The fact that I still have a chance just to get in this year, and CAN'T seem to get over the hump has been the most frustrating season I think I've ever played. But as long as the game plays like real baseball, that's still the most important thing to me.
CircleChange11
I'm in the same situation with the NLWest. ARZ, COL, SFG, and SDP are all pretty much .500 (53 GP). That's likely realistic ... and fun. SD will likely slip. LAD are 6.5 GB and well under .500, so I need to look at them and see if some player ratings are out of whack ... but they may not be b/c Bob is doing great with them. They may just be waiting until Sept to rip our hearts out. Actually, with Thome coming, the Dodgers will probably be the monster they should be in my franchise. I lose Garland to them too. With Scherzer still out for 25 more games, I might in sheep dit.
