By the way, how is everyone in the West under .500? Good to see you hanging in there.

It seems like it is quite common because everyone in my AL West is under .500 as well.

Then again i only have 5 AL teams with a .500+ record. 4 from the AL Central.

JR and CC, do you think it's more realistic than what a lot of people might use? Those heaters look like 200 mph! If so, I'd love to play with that.

Personally, I've tried a lot of different slider sets posted on this site.  From what I've experienced, this seems to be the closest, at least IMO, to replicating the actual speed(s) of real life pitches.  Of course, all pitchers are different and can change up speeds at anytime they want, but if there had to be a "middle" ground, this is what works for me.

I tried to go back to some old slider sets, and to be honest, it looked like something you'd see at a softball diamond.  I can't stand pitches that looking like they're "floating" to home plate.

You know something though, not every pitcher you're going to face throws 95 mph heat, or 100+ like Farnsworth.  When I say "middle ground", I think it's safe to say that on average you're facing 89-92 mph fastballs, and of course slightly less for breaking pitches.  Greinke was extremely tough, and struck out 9 batters.  I average anywhere from 3-6 per game.

Man that sounds pretty real to me. I was playing on MVP with a datafile and a couple of tweaks to benefit the CPU mainly. I was 32-43 at one point and now I'm 61-49 with the Pirates. May I please get a copy of w/e files you use for this JR?

Sure thing, Milk.  I"m pretty sure my datafile and sliders are posted in this thread somewhere.  I'll look, but if not I have them somewhere on the PC.

I'll check it out real quick.

I would play the first 10 games with "Hitters Eye" ON ... otherwise you're going to endure some 15K games.

After that it doesn;t take a whole lot to get "used to it". Low sinkers, high fastballs, low and in/away 2-seamers, and changeups are hard to hit ... as they should be. If you're going to hit something over the wall or in the gaps, it's going to have to be up ... also pulling outside pitches is certain death. It's pitch/location recognition and timing. I think it's awesome.

Absolutely.  And believe it or not, it is possible in MVP to pick up a breaking ball (curveball, slider, knucklecurve, slurve, etc) as the pitcher releases it.

It takes practice and playing this way for awhile, but I can gaurentee it's a challenge.

Way to grind it out, Jay.

Bad part is, I made a stupid mistake on the basepaths in the bottom of the third, and should have scored a run:

2 outs - Chavez on first, Patterson on second

Buck hits a single to left field, Patterson rounds third and goes in to score

I accidently sent Chavez to third, and he was thrown out before Patterson scored

Obviously, I didn't get the run.  This game could have been over in 9.   <_<

That looks like quite a dangerous line up. You may need to pitch wisely to Griffey. Ichiro seems to be having a poor year compared to the rest of his career.

I'm going to take some of the advice you had mentioned in your dynasty thread.  I'm going to go back through the boxscores and see who has consistently done the damage.  If I have to pitch around and/or walk them in certain situations, I'll do it. I can't let the same guys beat me every time, at least not even give them a chance at this point in the season.

It's the only chance I'm going to have.

The first game i played since i mentioned that to you. I got torn apart from the players i pinpointed as the main threats in the Angels.

I didn't take my own advice ^_^

I was looking over your boxscore, and what stood out to me the most was the intentional walk to Vlad Guerrero, who led off the inning.

I thought maybe you were taking your own advice.   B)

I saw that you lost the game, but I wasn't sure what players had done the damage to you in the past.

I regretted walking Vlad because that was what kicked off the big inning where as in the 9th Papelbon got Vlad easily.

I sort of did take my advice when walking Vlad but i pitched to both Hunter and Rivera.

All in all, I know you're right.  With the position that I'm currently in (and you too, in your dynasty), extra caution is just going to have to be taken.  I went through the Seattle boxscores to see who has hurt me the most.  No surprise that it's been Griffey.  In the 12 games that I've played against them, he's played in 11.

Here's what he's done:

11 Games

17-41 (.414 BA)

4 HR's

6 RBI's

I know he's hit a few extra bases too, I didn't even count them.  Believe it or not, Michael Saunders has been pretty solid too, and it goes without saying that Ichiro is dangerous anytime he gets on base.  I may take my chances putting Griffey on, but I'd rather take my chances pitching to Ichiro as opposed to letting him anywhere near the bags.

I would treat Griffey like he was Albert Pujols at this point of the season with those numbers. I would never want to walk Ichiro, i always make sure it down to him whether he gets on base or not. He is just too dangerous on the bases to ever contemplate walking him.

It's also not a plus that you've got a RHP going against a team whose most dangerous threats are LHBs. I know Doug Davis does well against teams with a Lefty stocked lineup (SDP, ATL), but not so much against "mostly righties".

It's "kinda good" that you got to face Farnsworth for multiple innings, because in a single inning he's hard to handle. He throws serious heat and is effectively wild.

Jay, do as RR says, not as he does. :D
