I can just imagine what you were thinking in the 9th. *grin*

Texas may not know it, but they're about to get 'pwned'. That's the only time I have ever said 'pwned'. Ever.

Walking Pudge to load the bases for Hammy. Ballsy. Very ballsy.

I've never said 'pwned' in my life.  As a matter of fact, I know what it means, but trying to reveal the origin of the word/words would leave me baffled.  We used to say 'owned', so whoever added the p must be a genius.  You have to admit, it stuck.

BUT ANYWAY.

This bottom 9th is indicative of my whole season.  In the large context of it all, I've skated on thin ice just trying to stay neck in neck with the other pathetic teams in the division.  At .500, mind you. On the smaller plane, I haven't been able to keep or hold a lead for more than 3 innings at any particular time in any particular game. If I had had no chance 50 games ago, my stress level would have been manageable, and I would have enjoyed playing the games. This 6 game winning streak is like the 'Second Coming'.

As my 11 year old says,

IT'S ON NOW    :diablo:

I think it came from online gaming with the chat feature, and in a rush someone type "pwned" instead of "owned", and as you say, it stuck.

To me, that is TONS more fun than taking a dominant team and winning 95+ games ... and WAY more fun than taking a team, trading away all the players someone doesn;t like (i.e., suck) for all the players they like (i.e., are awesome or major prospects). Neither situation is appealling to me. Although, I do remember thinking on the original MVP05 that I "found" a hidden gem prospect ... a SS named "Derksen". Turns out that was the fake name for Hanley Ramirez. Some "super scout" I turned out to be.

My 2yo has been running around with his hands up in the air yelling "I WIN!" for some reason. You and him might have something in common. *grin*

sort of off topic, but I'm almost positive that 'pwned' was started because of a misspelling in Warcraft, when you lost it was suppose to say you got owned but the designer misspelled it and it said you got pwned

other people say that it started when a pretty famous quake player misspelled it and people started using it because they just thought it was cool pro slang

and lastly some people say it was chess slang for 'pawned' (this one I doubt, doesn't seem very cool, lol)

anddd back to baseball

That new layout is looking good JR

Thanks, Dy-nasty.  Actually, a member here (redsox) gave me the idea to use it.  He had made some fantastic templates, only a little smaller, but they looked a lot like what The Show uses.  I made mine a little bigger but I haven't really messed with them too much.

If or when I make the playoffs, I may take this idea and expand on it, maybe something with a little more info.

I'll go the oppo direction and say that I don't really care for the new graphics.

Not much to it really, and a lack of color/highlights.

It does, very much, look like something form the show ... bit without the silver/chrome border that adds some flash to it.

Speaking of the show, anyone else notice that PS3's are $299. I'm about 50/50 on whether I'll grab one. Realistic gameplay, current rosters, outstanding graphics, and the feature of being to participate/present in a season-long dynasty AND an individual career is likely more fun than I can refuse. It's becoming more appealling than a "4th season with MVP", even though MVP is still PDG.

Realistic gameplay?  I keep hearing of a CPU late inning comeback in almost each and every game, and if the pitcher/batter confrontation is anything like in the demo, Sony still has work to do on a frame rate issue. I have a PS3 and last year's version, and tweaked sliders for about 3 months before I realized they simply didn't work.  That and a few other issues led me to pass on this year's version.  Like I said, I have the demo, so I haven't even rented it.

That being said, I can't honestly review the game from the perspective of playing over the long haul of a season, so the only thing I have to go on are from other's reviews who have, or from following a few other dynasties on other sites, which I've done enough of to know that I'm not overly impressed with the numbers I see, but on the other hand I'm truthfully not surprised either. The Show's biggest flaw, at least in last year' version, was a completely unusable slider set.

From all the baseball games that have hit the market in the last few years, and I've played them all, the reviews and previews really lead me to one giant assumption:

The term "Realistic Gameplay" is in the eye of the beholder.

For me, "realistic gameplay" is 'players/teams perform as they reasonably should'. So, if someone wins the division as the Nationals, they are either [1] one of the best gamers ever, or [2] using baby sliders.

Realistic gameplay is a pretty general description for not wanting to see poor pitchers have outstanding pitches, average hitters pulling low and away offspeed over the LF wall, 420 feet, etc. When a gamer is using an average teaqm and has a team BA near or above .300 and/or an ERA around 3.00 or so, they should know they are using baby sliders, are just pure awesome, or the game is unrealistic.

I don't think one could really evaluate realistic gameplay until after about 50-70 games (regardless of title).

I, for one, wouldn't use other peole's dynasties as a measure (except for maybe the simmed games of non-player controlled teams), because let's face it, most gamers are looking for sliders that give them every advantage and allow them to play well over their head.

Yeah seeing as I normally sim some of my games I've realized that the show has a very realistic feel to it. The simmed games prove to be quite real.. 5-9 hits a team 3-6 runs or so.. And the best teams tend to always be Yankees/Soxs/Cardinals.
