Thanks Joey.  Yeah, it's been tough.  I usually play 162 games a season, but you're right, it's been difficult with such a challenging team.  I still don't have much faith, Texas has some punch that I just can't seem to stop.  I think the only way I get in is if the Angels and Mariners do the dirty work for me.

I've been lucky to this point, I'll take anything I can get.

AWESOME! A PH GS? As Marty Schottenheimer would say "You've got the gleem, men." *grin*

Picked Ichiro off? I don;t think I've ever picked anyone off in MVP. Ever.

That's actually something I was thinking about the other day ... has any game offered a variety of pick-off moves including the ability to have your LHP throw over once his leg is raised (or if you see the runner break early)? A quick move as you're bringing your hands together? THe horrible 3rd to 1st move for righties?

Ichiro led off an inning 3 times, 2 GO's and a CS/POff. Good.

Sweet dynasty man... looks like a very exciting finish

i'm rootin for ya... even though i'm an angels fan = P

Thanks man, the Angels had a tough time with injuries this year.  Figgins, Napoli, Matthews Jr., Escobar, Lackey, and Ervin Santana were all down at some point in the season.  This and just plain under performance has probably been their downfall.

At any rate, they've been tough every time I've faced them, and I wish it were someone else I could finish the season off with. They're still a bit*h to play.   <_<

I haven't done this all year, but I just want to give a small recap on this game vs Seattle.  It's really a testament to the fact that if you stay patient and stay focused on the mound, the result can be totally different than the tone of the entire game:

This game was nowhere near as close as it looked.  Obviously, you can see that from the linescore, but if you look through the innings in the boxscore, I only had 1 hit until the 7th inning. I was down 4-0 at that point, and was really about to give up.  Seattle's (lefty) Rowland-Smith throws next to nothing as far as gas, but his location on his curveball and changeup had me on my heels the whole game.  Not to mention a slider that broke in the opposite direction.  It looked more like a screwball to me, and of course, I'm loaded down with right-handed batters. Once I got used to the speed of his pitches, I just couldn't find the sweet part of the bat.  By the end of the 6th inning, I had grounded out (weakly) 8 times, and most of the pop-ups were barely out of the infield.

(Top 7th): Down 4-0, this is where I had to adjust my strategy.  If I couldn't get on base with solid contact, I was going to make Smith walk me or throw me strikes.  By now, he was up into the mid-high 80's in his pitch count, so I decided to wait him out.  Garciaparra doubled, and through patience, I drew a walk with Ryan Sweeney to put 2 on with one out.  Aaron Cunningham got a changeup on the outside corner, but got enough of it to put it up the middle and drive in Garciappara.  Still though, I'm down 4-1 going into the bottom of the 7th.

(Bottom 7th): After Jack Wilson singles to lead off the inning, Seattle immediately answers my run with one of there own and regain the 4 run lead when Franklin Gutierrez doubles to drive in Wilson.  I'm now down 5-1 going into the 8th inning.

(Top 8th): Sticking with the game plan and staying patient in the 8th, I figured if Smith was still on the mound at almost 100 pitches, it was time to make my move.  Suzuki singled, Petit walked, and Ellis all got on after a fly ball out by Eric Patterson.  Bases loaded with 1 out, and of course my luck, they pull the tired Smith and bring in a reliever, right-hander Andrew Baldwin.  I figure I have nothing to lose at this point so I pull righty Scott Hairston and bring in left-handed hitting Travis Buck.  The first pitch I see is a high slider floating up and in, and I drilled it.

Gone.  Game tied.

8 innings of wanting to quit, and suddenly the game is tied in the 8th with one out.  In the excitement, I leave right handed hitting Garciaparra in who's up next, instead of pinch hitting (lefties) Barton or Powell.  Garciaparra grounds out for the 2nd out, and up comes Sweeney.  By this time, I've seen enough of Baldwin that I could tell he wasn't throwing that hard, and I was going to go for it all with Sweeney.

Sweeney gets a slider low and middle in.  Gone.  6-5.

(Bottom 8th): In the bottom of the 8th, the Mariners immediately put 2 men on with one out, and I unintentionally walked Bill Hall to load the bases. Partially out of trying to pitch him low to hit something weak in the infield, but mostly out of frustration of letting 2 guys on base.  Up only by a run with 1 out and the bases loaded, I got a gift when Jack Wilson hit a screamer on the ground in the infield, and I had plenty of time to turn 2.  Inning over.

(Bottom 9th): Still though, I knew I had work to do because Ichiro was leading off in the bottom of the 9th, and from many years of playing this game, I knew if he got on, more than likely he was coming around to score.  Sure enough, he hits a single up the middle with no one out.  I'm thinking, 'you gotta be kidding me, after the comeback I just pulled off'?  So now I'm really stressed, monitoring Ichiro at first while trying to keep the ball low to Gutierrez.  On the third throw over, I nail Ichiro leaning the other way.   Needles to say, and probaby pathetically, I was ecstatic.  At this point, I figured I had this game won. Gutierrez grounds out and Lopez strikes out, game over.

I went from almost giving up, to adjusting the game plan and not only getting the upper hand, but pulling off a win I desperately needed.

Thanks for reading.   B)

Awesome stuff, Jay.

This is a game you could have easily thrown in the towel after the start you got off to. Just started pitching to contact to get the thing over. You'll think about this game as you go down the home stretch.

Played a game like this myself last night. Got down 8-1 against Pettitte and the Yankees after just 4 innings. Pettitte had been making me look foolish at the plate from the get go. I was ready to just do anything to get the game over with. (Swing at everything, pitch to contact, etc...)

We then got to Pettitte in the 5th, rallying for 5 runs with 2 outs, and then 3 runs in the 6th. Ended up winning 10-9, with the Yankees scoring a run in the 9th.

Again, congrats on the win and for hanging in there.

Wow, no kidding?  Can't wait to see the write up on this one.  Again, it's a testament to hanging in there and not giving up, but I suppose that has a lot to do with where you are in the schedule or in the standings.  Just as you're trying to keep your head above water in the Central, I'm fighting for my life in my own dynasty.

Looking forward to your update on this one!   B)

Thanks, joriel.  Yeah, it's hard to believe the CPU kept him in the rotation.  Either way, I hope he's as bad as his numbers tell.  I've faced him once this season, and as you can see I handled him pretty well:

Congrats Jay. Don't you love those multi-run innings, especially late in the game. :good:

I do, but where have they been all year?   :o

Amazing too, LA has just destroyed Texas.  I know it's not over, but to this point, I couldn't ask for anything better to go my way.

Texas has the advantage going into the last series of the season:  I have LA, who is playing out of their mind, and Texas has a very weak Seattle team without Griffey and Sweeney in the lineup, and due to injuries I have to play scrubs (Cunningham & Petit) in the infield.   <_<

I'd really, really love to get my hands on a good College PC Hoops game, this baseball season has almost wore me out.   B)

It's nice to see the power game coming through for you. You've hit some bombs the last week or so.

I'm sure it's due to the fact that all season I've been teetering at .500, and just have been afraid to take the risk.  It seems each game has hinged on 1 or 2 runs, and I just  wasn't willing to risk going for the fences.  But with the playoffs looming and the games winding down, it's really a do or die situation.  These last few games I've been down a handful of runs with men on base, and just decided to go for it.  I really have had no other choice.  For the most part, it's worked out, but just remember, you haven't seen the ones I missed either.   :D

Only 4 regular season games left. Can you smell the playoffs yet? You can do it.

With Texas playing a limping Seattle team for the last 3 games, and me getting a red hot Angels team, I still predict I'll lose the division by 1 game.
