Minor Leaguer Performs Bat Trick

Well, I guess I have to be the token "hater" - I don't see the big deal. Sure, it's cool, but all he's really doing is snapping his wrists and catching the bat. Twenty minutes of practice and I'm pretty sure anyone with even average hand-eye co-ordination could also do it.

I'm guessing that it is not something that is impossible to learn how to do, but am also guessing that you are vastly under-estimating how much practice it would take.

It's probably on par with the Tiger Woods bouncing a golf ball on an iron and then wacking it down the fairway.

Snapping your wrists and spinning it and catching it on the handle is likely the 'easiest' part, doing it while starting/continuing the swing is likely the tough part.

Practicing it while not jamming or even breaking a finger is also likely under-appreciated. He spins it pretty damn fast and with some serous force in order to maintain the fluidity of the swing.

I would love to see video of the 'haters' pracicing the skill. That would likely be as good as entertainment as watching amatuer skateboarder trying to "ride the rail" on the steps.

It says he was a 2nd round draft pick, so that leads me to believe that his motor skills and hand-eye corrdination is well above the average internet poster. I am really looking forward to the youtube practice videos.

I went out to my backyard with a baseball bat to try this and all I did was knock over my garbage cans a few times.

LOL, I know how that kind of failure feels. I remember when I tried to throw a knuckle curve the first time when I went in my backyard. I was 11 or 12. I broke my parent's bedroom window. Ouch.
