MilkmanAnt Posted July 5, 2009 Share Posted July 5, 2009 Now that I will be working as of tomorrow, I intend on going monitor shopping. I love MVP more than any PC game I might ever get. I am aware of MVP's functioning with Widescreen, so I am trying to avoid that. Also I plan on settling for NBA 2K10 when it comes out for PC. Currently I have a 17" Gateway monitor(Non-Widescreen, Non-Flat screen) and looking to upgrade. My graphics card is HD and this monitor isn't, so I assume that I haven't really been playing on HD. So basically I want to know if there are any Non-Widescreen HD Monitors out somewhere. I've looked on Gateway and Dell and only see HD's for Widescreen and LCD's for Non-Widescreen. Also if there is none, is there a way to kinda work around the stretching of MVP with Widescreen? I'd appreciate some thoughts. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

At Best Buy up here in Canada we stopped carrying standard screen models a couple years ago. honestly you get used to it fairly quick and I believe someone had a custom screen resolution program for MVP. mike360 Posted July 6, 2009 Share Posted July 6, 2009 If HD is considered to be 1280x720 ( 720p ) and 1920x1080 ( 1080p ), which are both 16:9 aspect ratio, then I'd say any 4:3 or 5:4 resolution in that resolution range would be HD, right ? Like, 1280x1024 is 5:4 aspect ratio and 1400x1050 is 4:3, but they're both still HD, right ? I have a 17" widescreen LCD that has a max. resolution of 1440x900. I can't remember who made the program but it was called a resolution changer or something like that. it allowed you to change MVP's resolution to whatever you wanted. Now, some of those LCD's have a glossy screen--and that is exceptionally bad. You need to really do your homework before making a choice. I have a dual core 2.2 ghz and a geforce 8800 and I used that reschanger program to change the resolution to 1400x900 and it ran liquid at 60 FPS. I'd go higher if my monitor supported higher. ****, I paid $110 for this monitor, so I'm alright with that. I just play it at 1280x1024 because even though the reschanger program can change the game resolution to wide screen, the game itself isn't formatted for wide screen, so it's stretched. By the way, here's a real useful site for video card comparison. http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?ca...5&card2=551 After lookin' at that comparison, you may wanna scope out some video cards for that high res monitor you're gonna get. A 64 Bit memory bus for a video card is weak. With Radeons, it's something like this. Take the 3000 models for example. The 3450 is budget multimedia video card. The 3650 is a budget gaming card. The 3850 is a solid gaming card. It'll be the same for the 4000 series. The most important number is the second one. It basically identifies what category the graphics card should be used for. I like GeForces because they're cheaper. You get more bang for your buck. I bought this GeForce 8800 GS like a year or so ago for around $100. It's a great card. I can even play most newer games with high settings, but it's showing it's weaknesses with some of the new games. I can play Crisis with it on med-high settings. I'm not a real graphics ***** though, so I don't care. What I'm trying to say is, I know what you wanna do with your computer and you could pick up a GeForce 9800 GT for aa little over $100 now. Yea, it's easy. You just insert the card into the slot and hook a cable from your power supply to the video card. With a 9800GT, MVP 2005 will run at 60 FPS all the time no matter what resolution you set it at. That card is a beast. Tell me 2 things though. Providing you have the wattage and the PCI-E slot, all you have to do is insert the card and have the driver for it. Best thing to do is go to NVIDIA's site for the driver: http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html The minimum PSU wattage recommended is 400 watts for that card--but I would suggest higher. How about the model and make of your PSU? Look at your manual for information regarding the Graphics card slots and PSU, unless you built the computer yourself, which is what I did.
