Crowd Collision Beta Test

Alright, this is what I did. The standard MVP Baseball stadiums have no collision detection in the crowd, so when you hit a home run or a foul ball in the stands, it just disappears. I previously made a mod that put collison data in the stands, but this new mod is more in-depth. It has more collision data in the stands than my previous mod, so balls don't just roll around, they actually deflect off the people and empty seats. I also changed the crowd so that there are some actual empty seats. Take a look.

I'm lookin' for feedback on this. I modified the Astrodome for testing purposes. I included my Home Run Derby mod with this mod, so you can test it out easier that way and see exactly what this mod does. It's pretty cool and I think it adds a great element of realism to the game, but let me know what you guys think.

I'm in the process of completely remaking the crowd's appearance, so I'm starting with empty seats. For the hell of it, I wanted to see a stadium with empty seats. I chose Tropicana Field and played HRD in it. It demonstrated the additional collision data well, so I'm sharing this as well.

Download my latest (around last Dec.) version of Classic Yankee Stadium and open it up. You can see that I renamed the crowd.o to something else (can't remember offhand), and then added a new crowd image in the cram32.fsh. Now, when I did this, the game no longer cycled the UV map to make it look like the crowd was moving, so I put a row with 0 filled seats, and rows with differently filled seats in the other part. So, if you look at Yankee Stadium, there are different crowd levels depending on where you look.

I had to go into the newly-renamed crowd o file and select seating areas to move them around the UV map, and then I was done. Check it out, though it is advanced.

To me, something is missing without the crowd. The crowds may not be perfect, but they still add something to the game. Without them, it looks like the two teams sneaked into the stadium to play a game, hoping that no one would catch them. ^_^

But that's just my opinion. If you like playing without the crowds, more power to you!

It's a shame the 3d crowd process is so mindnumbingly awful, because it is so rewarding when you nail a homer and 30,000 virtual people lose their mind, like at my Ebbets Field. If only they didn't disappear for no good reason like at Braves.

I hear ya. I played some games in the empty stadiums and it's funny. I muted the crowd volume. It's like you said, but it's cool to see home runs bounce in the seats.
