* LeBron James (SF/SG, Cleveland Cavaliers) - The Complete package. LeBron is a score at will player, capable at any time of taking a game over at will. If by the off chance his shots aren't falling, he plays towards the intangibles; crowds passing lanes in hopes of a transition basket, plays catch up defense better than anyone in the league, and is just as good a passer as he is a shooter. Dude can rebound with the best of them to boot. Biggest triple-double threat we've seen in yrs imo, since Oscar Robertson.

* Kobe Bryant (SF/SG, Los Angeles Lakers) - Another score at will player. Coming down the stretch of any game, big or not, Kobe can take over a game with methodical precision, better than maybe even Michael Jordan could have. Only downside is Bryant has never met an improbable shot that he didn't fall in love with. His repitoire is full loaded with shots that no one in the league could even imagine. Kobe also claims himself to be the best defender in the league. I just don't see it.

* Dwayne Wade (SG/PG, Miami Heat) - I don't think anyone in the league has the spark plug ability that DWade possesses. There's so much fire in Wade and his natural physical ability just solidifies his case. He's not the best passer and doesn't always think it first as much as he should (which is why he's widely considered a SG) but the dude is more fiesty than anyone I remember watching and is a steal machine. He plays passing lanes phenominally as well as man to man defense, can rebound and is lightning quick off the first step, which makes him impossible to contain in a man to man defense.

* Chris Paul (PG, New Orleans Hornets) - Closely following behind Steve Nash, CP3 has the natural basketball presence and knowledge to run any offense. Look what he did with David West and Tyson Chandler. Turned them from very good 6th men, to everyday starters and at some point, All Stars. Another fiesty spark plug type player, he's an animal defensively as well as on offense. The kid plays with a certain blatant disregard for his own well being and is a rare case of the think-pass-first player.

* Carmelo Anthony (SF, Denver Nuggets) - It took him a while but Melo has finally arrived on the list. Near the top at least. Unlike Kobe and Bron, he can't always take over a game for the simple fact that he's not as quick and precise. Late in games if he gets doubled, he forces anything because he thinks he's the only one who can carry an offense. Hopefully with the presence of Billups, he'll realize he's got other options. Other than this flaw, he's a pretty well rounded weapon.

* Steve Nash (PG, Phoenix Suns) - Nash is flat out the smartest player in the league. He see's things that no other PG sees. He notices cuts and lanes with precision and can pass/lob/bounce better than anyone. He reminds of Kidd except better and a much better scorer. Coupled with his FT%, 3-Point accuracy and his ability to execute a pick and roll with anyone make him a strong candidate for MVP yr in and yr out.

* Dirk Nowitzki (PF/C, Dallas Mavericks) - I don't think there's anything Dirk can't do. He's a 7 footer who can play outside and keep you off balance with his outside and his inside game. He's a bit of a seive on defense but let's be honest; most dominant offensive players are. But on the offensive side of the ball, Dirk can shoot from downtown extended, he's got a mid range jumper and a fade-a-way that makes guys suffer and physicality and his agility for his size make him impossible to defend; if you play him up, he gets you off the dribble and hits a stop and pop. If you play him back and give up the shot, you'll pay the price all night.

* Chris Bosh (PF/C, Toronto Raptors) - Bosh is a shot swatter in hiding. He gives up on defense far too easily but when he locks down, his stature and mindset are that of the likes of someone who can keep up with Dwight. That's saying a lot, maybe too much, but he's never shown his full defensive potential so. On the offensive side of the ball, Bosh his a wire pain in the *** to cover. He's been working on his mid-range jumper and he plays for offensive rebounds which is a rarity.

* Gilbert Arenas (SG/PG Washington Wizards) - I've always been depressed we haven't gotten to watch Agent 0 at full pace with his fellow superstars. Regardless, in the spurts with Gil has played continuously, he's a freak. He keeps the pace of the game slow and the tempo at a steady level, but still gets his ooo's and aah's with dazzling ball handling skills and a silky smooth shot. I don't want to jinx it but he looks like the Arenas of old, which is scary for Eastern Conference teams. He's got the ability to make guys miss when guarding as his motions remain the same whether he intends to shoot, drive or pass.

* Dwight Howard (C, Orlando Magic) - The league's most dominant center does not really do Howard any justice. He is freakish physical specimen. He crashes the boards with such a reckless abandonment that it's painful to watch smaller guys go up with him. His physical ability and presence are unsurpassed. His biggest problem is staying out of foul trouble. If he plays against a C with half a brain, he remains in foul trouble game. But when he's in playing a physical defensive game, he's the most epic lane hounding shot blocker I think I've ever watched play.

* Chauncey Billups (PG, Denver Nuggets) - Billups has one of the best basketball minds of our time. Maybe of all time. I've seen very few guys over the past 2 decades who execute a pick and roll better than this guy. He's got an almost unmatched court vision and plays so smart while keeping the tempo so tamed and mild. He slows down a game, which Denver wasn't used to but does to so much avail that no one can really knock his style. Best thing to ever happen to Denver. At least since Dikembe Mutombo.

* Kevin Garnett (PF/C, Boston Celtics) - KG is a natural born court general. Which is a rarity at his position (talking about PF or C). He commands the low post position everytime he can and has a half way decent mid range jumper. Coming towards the second half of his career, he should really be working harder on his mid range but he's still got a dominant low post presence. His defense is still outstanding as well, his wirey Chris Bosh like body lets him get close and personal in a man to man scheme.

* Tim Duncan (PF, San Antonio Spurs) - He's the owner of the Bank. He's got soft hands and a good ball fake for a guy his size playing his position. The discussion is really between he and Shaq as to who has the softest hands for a big man. Duncan is also a big game presence and shows up to play every single day. He's a work horse on the boards, regardless of whether he's got good positioning, a silky smooth bank shot and a halfway decent mid-range (sarcasm, his mid range is strong), he's got a great post presence and he can pass as well as anyone.

kobe

Lebron james is good, and IMO without him the team wouldn't be anywhere close to the team they have been

but kobe is just so good, one of the best of all time, not may can stop him, he comes up clutch when needed, and he has the rings.

Well of course the rings are a big factor, which is why I made the poll based on skillset alone. If I had decided to make the rings a big factor in this question, the list would've been shorter and a lot different (probably only containing Kobe, Wade, Shaq, Duncan, Garnett and Chauncey).
