according to this news article, EA sports has obtained the license for the ESPN brand in sports games. Meaning, all future EA Sports games will feature ESPN style presentation, graphics etc.

This agreement is for fifteen years.

Basically, EA is fast becoming a monopoly in the sports genre. I wouldn't be surprised if EA eventually gets the exclusive license for MLB, NHL and NBA franchises.

I would think the first EA Sports game that will feature ESPN stuff would be Madden 2006.

yeah, EA will still develop the game, including graphics and stuff. but the in game presentation will be full out ESPN with ESPN style menus and look. Maybe they'll have ESPN announcers too.

Good idea.

And maybe thy could include that Player Finder thing, so I don't have to look through 120 teams' rosters to find someone...

well, looks like i have to just suck it up and start liking ea sports games or quit video game sports. the only sports games im into is baseball football and college basketball, I was an avid espn football player so a few weeks ago when ea bought the players license i was sad, so football was gone weeks ago, now at least madden will have the espn overlays and whatnot. that was a major part of what brought me to check out segas game. hopefully maddens gameplay is tuned to make it more sim. mvp will be brought up nicely with the espn presentation. maybe they will have espn 2 logos for minor league games. i hope they take what VC did with the license and make that their start point. it would suck to have to wait 2 or 3 years for them to properly implement it like it took vc.

Very disappointing, but I don't think it is the final blow to VC/Sega. They could still nab FOX or something.

Hopefully EA takes full advantage of the license.

i like ESPN better....

I was reading the article and seen this " For example, "being able to set rosters based on that night's rosters, brought to you by ESPN." I said to myself wow that would be frikkin nice..No what, this got me even more dyin laughing

"It's like saying we're going to get married without a pre-nup."

Watch for a complete interview with Frank Gibeau, and more on the EA/ESPN marriage, tomorrow in GameSpot News.
