GMBregoli
Hi, I'm a first time poster here. I downloaded a roster update for MVP 2005 PC and I'm not sure what to do next. It downloaded okay and I have the file but my problem is It's showing up as a unknown application. I click the file and it takes me online to some Windows File Association page. Where it gives information about the file but from there I don't know what to do next. My operating systems is windows XP. Thanks for any help. Now if I understand you correctly, you downloaded an updated roster for the game and you wan to put it in. You don't have to worry about associating it with anything in Windows. Before we go on, can you give me the link where you downloaded the file from? I want to make sure you got the latest one. Assuming you have the latest roster set available, all you need to do is unzip the file and place everything in that zip file in the DATA\DATABASE directory in the game. This will overwrite the roster set you already have in the game.
GMBregoli
Hi Yankee4Life, I'm a Yankee fan too and thanks for the quick reply. The link for the roster I'm trying to get is: http://www.mvpmods.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=4393 Title is MVP 2003 2007 Opening Day Roster by C.H.Tsao. I wanted the 2007 roster. Why it says 2003 too I'm not sure. I just bought the game months ago from online. Even though it came out in 2005 I never owned the game before, so I'm unsure of how adding mods work. I finished two seasons I'm up to the start of 2007. Not sure if I'm even downloading the right roster but I figured I'd try it. If I can only use the latest roster updates thats fine. I just want a update of some kind.
Yankee4Life
Thank God I asked you what file you downloaded. Don't use this one. I believe this is a roster update for Mvp 2003. Besides, this is a roster that is way outdated for your use. If you want to use Mvp 2007, download this mod right here. Beware though, since you are brand new, this may be a bit overwhelming at first to install this. You will need another install of Mvp baseball for this and that is not hard to do. It's just being familiar with what you are going to do. But please do not use this roster set you just downloaded.
GMBregoli
Thanks again Yankee4Life. I deleted that first file from my CPU. Now I download this file you linked and it will require a whole reinstall of MVP 2005 correct? I read the File Description for the download and it seems that is what will happen. Out of curiosity is a whole reinstall required for every roster update you download? Thanks again.
Jim825
When you install the MVP07 mod, it will ask you to insert your MVP2005 disks and it will create a new, separate installation for you that is updated to 2007. As far as your other question, you do not need to reinstall the game everytime you install a new roster. You should just need to install the roster files into the data\database folder. The mods should include installation instructions that tell you what you need to do to get them to work. In your first post, you mentioned something about needing to do a file association. That is because Windows did not know what type of file you were working with. If you are working with a Zip file, you need a utility like WinZip. If it is a RaR file, you need a utility like WinRAR. If you google either of these, you can find free versions of these utilities that you can download.
GMBregoli
Thanks for the reply Jim825. Just a quick follow up question. I didn't download the update yet but plan to soon. Now if I understand correctly, I'll have the original default 2005 game and a updated roster version. Will there be two different icons on the desktop screen? One for the default game and updated version? and will both work? Sorry for all the questions but I'm still a bit confused. Very confused actually. You will have two completely separate installations of the game, so they will both work. I can't remember if a new icon will be created by the MVP2007 installer. If one isn't created, you can easily create one yourself. Never be afraid to ask questions. It's the only way you will learn.
GMBregoli
Well, I got the 2007 roster update loaded. But for some strange reason the rosters aren't updated. The 2007 season schedule is there but the roster is still 2005. Is there a file transfer I'm needing to do somewhere? Everything else seems to have loaded properly. The file readme that came with the download says I can use the 07-maker.exe ''Run in your MVP root folder Make Dyansty or owner mode save and exit MVP, restart MVP the normal way'' I did just that and only the schedule updated at that point. GMBregoli
I still can't get this update to work right. The 07 season schedule is there but the rosters are unchanged. The roster update I'm trying for is: http://www.mvpmods.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=3771
grmrpr1313
Actually the latest rosters are from Sept 2009 by KG. Look for them in the download area. He is the best and most accurate roster guy out there.
Gordo
Are you trying to update rosters to a season/franchise that already started? Maybe that's the prob. Instead of using a tool to install, simply zip the rosters that you want (there's 19 small DAT files) to use and place them in the 'database' subfolder, then unzip and overwrite the existing ones. I'm sure there's a way to substitute in an existing season/franchise, but I don't think you're asking that.
