Pitching Tutorial...

Hey guys...

Man, with this new 2K10 the pitching is a lot different and harder than 2K9 was. I just can't seem to throw a good pitch. A lot of wild pitches too. LOL!!! I mean there's a cursor with arrows pointing somewhere(???).

Is there a tutorial on how to pitch, and if anyone knows, can I switch to the "classic" pitching until I have time to figure all of this out?

Thanks a lot for any help.

If you go into game modes, there's a practice feature. Here you can practice making the movement properly. What gamepad are you using exactly? I used to have a logitech with a squared housing around the right analog stick, and it made fluid circular movement impossible.

If you go into presentation settings, (as long as hurry-up mode is off) you can set the pitch monitor to show after you throw every pitch. That way you can see what you're doing right and doing wrong.

In short, each pitch has two movements. Move the stick to the first location, and hold it until the inner circle matches the outer circle. Be careful of your timing, because you can also overthrow. Then, when the two circles meet, make the second motion as cleanly as you can, and stop as close to where the graphic shows to stop. So if you're throwing a simple fastball, you move the right stick straight down, then once the two circles meet, you move it straight up and hold it until the pitch is released.

Don't try the sinker. Death to the sinker. So far I use the fastball, slider, circle change and two seamer because it's a good combination of speed and movement, plus the actual motions are relatively easy.

Hate, Hate, Hate those pitching controls.

Hearing that there is no way to change to classic controls on PC has sealed the deal for me. No 2k this year. Too bad I just dropped all that cash to upgrade my PC for nothing.

Thanks for that info Sean. I will definitely try that.

To emath2432, I have heard that once you get used to those controls it really is a lot of fun and a lot better than the classic control pitching.

Thanks again.

I guess it depends on who you are. I have always thought, simpler is better when it comes to gaming controls.

I just turned 35 a week ago. Maybe I am just getting too old.

I have the PC version using the keyboard for all controls (I have not decided if I should buy a controller for this game or not.):

1. Select my pitch by pressing the Space Bar = Pitch A, NUMPAD 0 = Pitch B, NUMPAD 5 = Pitch C, NUMPAD . = Pitch D, or NUMPAD Enter = Pitch (no letter)

In the picture below I selected the Slider by pressing NUMPAD Enter

Pitch1.jpg

2. Once I selected the pitch I look at the strike zone and put the ball where I want the pitch to go by using the W,S,A,D keys. Then I turn my attention to the arrows in the pitch circle. In this case the 1st arrow starts out pointing to the right and then the 2nd arrow swings to the left. So what I will do is hold down NUMPAD 6 until the yellow inner circle is just about touching the outer white circle. As soon as the yellow circle is just about to touch the white circle I release pressure on NUMPAD 6 and immediately tap NUMPAD 4.

Once you get the hang of the skill it is pretty easy.

For other pitches just look at where the arrows are pointing then just use the Number Pad arrows on your key board to follow the same sequence as shown in the Pitch Circle. Another example would be a Fastball in which the arrows are pointing down and then up. So you would hold down the NUMPAD 2 key until the yellow circle just about reaches the white outer circle I then release pressure on NUMPAD 2 and immediately tap NUMPAD 8.

I hope this helps.

Now if I can only get the batting down...

Hi guys,

I have the PC version and I would like to practice pitching. When I go into the game modes I dont see practice, but there is a "Skills" mode I think its called and all I can do is throw about 10-15 pitches. Is this the practice you guys are talking about?

thanks

Ha ha :D

I tried the demo on PS3 today, and it isn't as bad as I remember it being last year.

I am so back and forth on this game. In the end I am just going to wait til I see the patch (if they actually DO patch the PC version), and I might give it a go anyway.

For now, am really enjoying The Show, so I am not gonna worry about it too much.
