kickenwing13
Okay guys, I hate 2k enough that i went out and got the MVP's on xbox and then my xbox broke and 2004 was not even close to 2005 so I learned i could get the PC version. Then i saw the crazy price and, I'll be honest, i decided to try to download it. After playing it for a week i decided i liked it and that I didn't feel right downloading it so I bought it off of Amazon. As soon as i did that i got on here and downloaded all of the official patches and installed them. It was 2,3,4,5 but I didn't see a 1? I also downloaded the newest roster at the time. I can play the game and the patches appeared to make the game less choppy, but when i try to load the new rosters i can view them, edit them, but not play with them in any mode. Anything i'm doing wrong? Or is there a process that i need to follow from installation on? Any help i can get would be appreciated. I'm so excited to have the game and the ability to get new rosters and everything.
Jim825
Which rosters did you download (there are at least 3 in the downloads section) and what format are they in (.SAV file, .DAT files, .MBE file)? Also, did you make sure that you installed them in the proper folder?

Also, did you make sure that you installed them in the proper folder? I believe that it is a .sav file. and I have it in my MVP Baseball 2005 folder just pasted. So if i go to mydocuments and click on mvp2005 its right there.. I can load the rosters no problem. I can see the players, edit rosters, etc, but i just can't play a game in any mode with them loaded. At about halfway the game shuts off and says there was an error. Jim825
Does the crash happen with all teams? Have you checked batting orders and pitching rotations to make sure that there are no empty slots? Have you checked the cyberfaces assigned to the players to make sure that one isn't missing?
kickenwing13
Okay i decided to try willy's roster. I also downloaded mvpedit. So i reinstalled the game and installed patches 2,3,4,5 from the download section. I then downloaded willy's roster, imported them to mvpedit, exported them to c/mydocuments/mvpbaseball2005/data/database. The rosters show up. I let the computer optimize the rosters, then try to play a game and at halfway it gives me the "send error" screen and crashes. Guys im getting frustrated. I really want to play this and i really want to play this with the rosters. Right now the game is useless. The game plays without doing the rosters, with the patches applied, but as soon as i do any sort of rosters it crashes when loading any kind of game with any team. I can understand your frustration with it right now but you have to understand that it is not the game that is making the errors, it is you. I also tried Willy Bling's 2010 roster and I exported it into my Mvp 2008 game. Guess what? No problems at all. I played a few games and I had no crashes or anything. Why should it work for me and not for you? Because I am more familiar with importing rosters. This game is not useless. The problem right now is user error and that can be corrected. EDIT: Maybe Jim here can back me up on this, but I don't know if you need every single patch that EA came out with. I think I only installed it up to patch #2 and I never had a problem. Patch 3, 4 and 5 are very minor patches. EDIT #2: I did not have the computer optimize my roster. I just imported them into the game. I backed up my old roster first that I had (KG's latest from last year) just in case something went wrong. Nothing went wrong so I am all set. Jim825
A few things to point out here: 1. When installing the MVP2005 patches, you do not need to install all of them. Each patch contains everything in the previous patch (i.e. patch 2 contains everything in patch 1, patch 3 contains everything in patches 1 & 2, etc.). In your case, you would only need to install patch 5 to get everything. 2. I noticed that you are installing the rosters to your c:/mydocuments/mvpbaseball2005/data/database folder. Did you install the game to your c:/my documents folder? On my system (I'm running Windows XP), my game was installed to c:/Program Files/EA Sports/MVP Baseball 2005, and I then installed the rosters to the MVP Baseball 2005/data/database folder. 3. I downloaded Willy's rosters, installed them, started a game (Red Sox at Yankees) and like you experienced a crash. I then opened up the rosters again in MVPEdit and started looking at the cyberfaces assigned to the players. If a cyberface is missing from the data/models.big file, the game will crash. It only took about 15 seconds to find a player with a missing face. The cyberface assigned to Clay Bucholz on the Red Sox does not exist in the models.big file. I believe I also notice the same thing for Mike Cameron. I stopped there, because this was enough to tell me why the game crashed. There must be some other mod (or mods) that needs to be installed before you install Willy's rosters, however, he doesn't tell you what is required. I have posted a comment about this on the roster download page as well as the support topic for the rosters. We'll have to see if he responds. UPDATE: See this post by Yankee4Life: http://www.mvpmods.com/index.php?showtopic=45756&view=findpost&p=599510 It appears that you need to install the MVP08 mod first (which you can get at EAMods.com or MLBMods.com) before you install Willy's rosters.
